West Side Story
Steven Spielberg’s 2021 West Side Story marks the second time the beloved Broadway classic has been adapted for the screen after the 1961 version starring Rita Moreno, who won the Oscar for her role as Anita. In Spielberg’s remake of the love story between Tony and Maria in the ‘50s, Ariana DeBose captivates in Moreno’s original role, securing her the best-supporting actress nomination at this year’s Oscars. The film also stars Ansel Elgort as Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria, who won a Golden Globe for her breakout role. Below are items inspired by Maria.
King Richard
King Richard is the origin story of the man behind all-time tennis greats, Serena and Venus Williams. Will Smith stars as Williams family patriarch, Richard Williams, and his strong performance earned the actor his first-ever Oscar nom for best actor in a leading role. Meanwhile, Aunjanue Ellis earned a nod for best actress in a supporting role for her portrayal of Williams’s then-wife, Oracene Price. Below are items to get you ready for your next tennis match.
Don’t Look Up
Dark comedy Don’t Look Up pokes fun at the world’s polarizing views on climate change and current politics. The satire features a star-studded cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Ariana Grande, and Timothée Chalamet, among others. The Adam McKay film is also nominated for best original screenplay. Below are items inspired by Lawrence’s character, Kate Dibiasky, an astronomy Ph. D. student at Michigan State University.

Relationships are tested when a widow marries a ranch owner, whose brother openly makes adjusting to the ranch life difficult for Dunst’s fragile character. The Jane Campion-directed film is leading the awards with 12 nominations, including best actor in a leading role for Cumberbatch and nominations for a real-life couple Dunst and Plemons for best actor and actress in a supporting role.
