There are many celebrities in Hollywood who are academically inclined and have a passion for learning a new language.

Of course, there are also some who have known more than one language since childhood due to their multicultural upbringing.

In this article, we will list five top celebrities who know and can speak multiple languages. Do note, we are not considering English here.

Tom Hiddleston is a charmer, both on and off the screen. A master of many skills (check out his tap-dancing videos), Hiddleston is also a certified multilingual.

The English actor can woo you in as many as nine languages!

That’s right, our favorite Loki knows European Romance languages like French, Italian, and Spanish and also Greek, some Russian, Latin, German, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese.

Natalie Portman is probably one of the few Hollywood actors who are academically gifted.

The Academy Award winner is a proud holder of a Psychology degree from Harvard University and knows languages such as Spanish, French (conversational), German, Japanese, and Hebrew.

Born to an Israeli father and an American mother, Portman spoke English and Hebrew growing up and learned the rest over the years.

Actor Jodie Foster also knows four languages: French, Italian, German, and Spanish.

She is super smooth with French and dubs all her English films in French without even taking any assistance.

The two-time Oscar winner has acted in many French films, too, where she says her own lines and this is courtesy of her attending a French-language prep school since the age of three.

Sandra Oh is the fourth entry on this list.

The Canadian-American actor knows three languages apart from English. Oh is fluent in Korean, French, and Spanish.

She had reportedly learned French while studying at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal, Quebec.

While receiving an award from her acting school, in 2009, Oh had talked to Radio-Canada’s (CBC) reporter entirely in French.

Christoph Waltz is bilingual since are we not considering English here.

The two-time Academy Award-winning actor can speak in French and German fluently.

“I grew up German speaking in Austria and then I learned English and French, then I picked up this fake Italian accent (sic),” he had said once.

We even got a sample of his “fake Italian accent” in Inglourious Basterds.
