Lindsay Lohan Explains Why Moving to Dubai Helped Her Mental Health: ‘Really Putting Myself First’
Lindsay Lohan was a huge star in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She is known for starring in movies such as The Parent Trap (1998), Freaky Friday (2003), and Mean Girls (2004).
However, Lohan has been relatively quiet this past decade. And this is because she is no longer living in the United States. The 35-year-old is now a resident of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. She even credits this move with helping her mental health.
Lindsay Lohan moved to Dubai in 2014
Lohan used to live in places like New York and London. She moved to Dubai in 2014.
“Moving here was a fresh start,” she told Emirates Woman in 2018. “You hear more about real current events rather than celebrity gossip, which I really appreciate.”
Lohan has also shared that she enjoys the privacy she gets in the desert city.
“There’s a certain calmness that I find there. There’s no paparazzi, no cameras; that’s a big deal for me,” she told W Magazine. “I never considered people taking a picture ‘bothering’ me, but I don’t want people to misinterpret who I am as a person if they see me sneezing and they say I’m crying. I do really appreciate having the life where I can just go outside and not have to worry.”
Lindsay Lohan reveals moving to Dubai helped her mental health
Lohan was a child star and did not have the easiest time growing up in the spotlight. In her teens and early 20s, she was often running into scandals in Hollywood’s nightlife. She even experienced alcoholism and spent time in rehab centers.
Lohan explains why the move to Dubai has helped her improve her mental health.
“I got there, and I felt a certain sense of calm,” she said in a new video with Vogue. “I think it’s because paparazzi is illegal there. I really found that I had a private life, and I could just take time for myself.”
She added, “I decided to stay there because I really learned to appreciate what it is to go, do my work, and then leave and live a normal life. It took me moving there to really appreciate the time that I take for myself—instead of just going, going, going—and learning to say ‘no.’ And really putting myself first, and choosing the things that I want to do, wisely, for me first.”
Lindsay Lohan got engaged in November 2021
Lohan has also found love in Dubai. In November 2021, Lohan announced her engagement to Bader Shammas, a financier.
“My love. My life. My family. My future,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Lohan shared some details about her wedding plan with Shammas.
“I want to keep it small and intimate and just, you know, family-focused and just really beautiful,” Lohan said. The actor also added, “I’m a very lucky girl and he’s a very lucky man.”
