Where are the stars of Bucks Fizz as Jay Aston shares daughter’s harrowing meningitis battle
Bucks Fizz shot to fame after winning the 1981 Eurovision contest, and went on to top the charts with their bubbly 80s pop music.
The band, which originally consisted of Bobby G, Jay Aston, Cheryl Baker and Mike Nolan, enjoyed many years of success with hits such as The Land Of Make Believe and Making Your Mind Up reaching number one in the charts.
The line-up continued to change over the years, with Jay quitting Bucks Fizz in 1985 and being replaced by Shelley Preston.
Now, there are two versions of the famous group – one with the same name including Bobby G, and a second made up of Jay, Mike and Cheryl, called The Fizz.
While the original Bucks Fizz is no more, the four stars continue to perform and release music, alongside other ventures such as TV presenting and charity work.
Recently, Jay, 60, appeared on Loose Women where she shared details about her 18 year old daughter Josie’s heartbreaking bacterial meningitis battle, after she was rushed to hospital last month.
Here we take a look into what Jay, Cheryl, Mike and Bobby are up to now…

Jay Aston
Jay, 60, is a singer and songwriter, who currently performs as part of The Fizz.
Alongside singing, she’s also performed in a number of pantomimes over the years, and teaches dance and performance at her performing arts school in Kent.
Jay is married to guitarist Dave Colquhoun, with the couple tying the knot back in 1999 in London. The pair reside in Surrey with their 18 year old daughter Josie Alexandra.
Jay recently revealed that Josie was rushed to hospital in March and was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. She was put into intensive care before being put into an induced coma after her organs began to fail following her diagnosis.
The singer’s 18 year old daughter is now recovering in a specialist kidney unit and has been told she will be “permanently scarred”.
“It’s been absolutely devastating. We were told it was 50/50 whether she would pull through. We still don’t know when she’ll be coming home,” Jay recently explained to the Mirror.
The mum-of-one battled mouth cancer in 2018, which saw her undergo a seven-hour operation to remove 40% of her tongue and her top teeth.
The singer made a full recovery, and was told just 10 days after her surgery that her cancer had gone.
Bobby G
Bobby, 68, currently performs as part of band Bucks Fizz, alongside his wife, Heidi Manton, Tammy Choat and Paul Yates.
He and Heidi tied the knot in 2000 before welcoming a daughter together. Bobby also has two children from his previous marriages.
The singer mainly stays out of the spotlight now, and it was previously reported that he even turned down an opportunity to reunite with Cheryl, Jay, and Mike on Bucks Fizz’s 40th anniversary.
Bobby won the use of the group’s name in a court battle, and previously said of his former bandmates: “They’re very bitter. What rubbed them up more was that I fought the case and they lost.
“It cost them an awful lot of money. They even had to pay me. “
Cheryl Baker
Cheryl, 68, is a member of The Fizz and has also carved out a career as a TV presenter over the years.
She’s also appeared on several shows, such as Popstar to Operastar, Celebrity Mastermind and Would I Lie To You?
In 2018, she competed on ITV’s Dancing on Ice alongside professional skater Dan Whiston, with the pair being eliminated in the fourth week.
Cheryl married bass player Steve Stroud in 1992, and the couple are parents to twin daughters, Kyla Olivia and Natalie Maria, who are now 27 years old.
She resides in Kent with her family, and has previously opened up about the money struggles she’s faced due to the pandemic.
She shared in 2021: “We had one virtual gig and that was our only income, it’s been ridiculously hard.
“I owe lots of tax, I physically haven’t got the money to pay anybody back because I’m broke.”
The 68 year old revealed that she’d started growing her own vegetables as a way to save cash, and had also been selling her belongings, including mattresses and clothes, online.

Mike Nolan
Mike, 67, is a member of The Fizz, and he also released his first solo album in 2013, titled In My Life.
The singer co-created The Mike Nolan Brain Damage Fund and continues to support the charity HeadFirst, following a car crash in 1984 which saw all four members of Bucks Fizz injured.
Mike was severely hurt and fell into a coma and at one point was given the Last Rites. After three days, he awoke and then spent six months recovering.
As a result of the accident, Mike suffered severe short-term memory loss, epilepsy and reduced vision.
