March 16 ‘Dynamite’ numbers up, but still under a million viewers
While the overall AEW ratings for the March 16 episode of Dynamite increased, the show fell five spots among original cable programming, and still fell under a million average viewers.
Last week, AEW’s flagship show saw some positives and negatives when it came to its ratings. Among viewers aged 18 to 49, the March 9 broadcast was the most-watched show on cable for the night. Scoring better numbers than Tucker Carlson Tonight and NBA basketball with advertisers’ favorite demographic of TV viewers.
That same episode also saw an increase of 12% with that same all-important demographic, compared to the previous week. This week’s edition of Dynamite offered up a similar tale of pros and cons.
AEW ratings fall to sixth for Wednesday night
On March 16, ratings for the Wednesday night show increased by almost 50,000 viewers on average. Going from 945,000 to 993,000 (via Show Buzz Daily). That is notable since last week’s episode saw a decline in overall viewership from the prior week. However, this week offered up far stiffer competition than NBA regular-season games and the talking heads of Fox News.
On Wednesday, AEW went up against two of the “first four” games for the NCAA basketball tournament. The two play-in games ended up taking two of the top three spots for the night with 18 to 49-year-old viewers. Because of that, AEW fell all the way to sixth on Wednesday with that demographic.

Along with the fall from first to sixth on March 16, for the third straight week, AEW Dynamite finished below a million average viewers. While AEW is not expected to land better ratings than WWE since the brand is only a few years old, they have a roster nearly on the same level as their industry competitor. Making it disappointing that their top show couldn’t top a million viewers. Yet Lifetime reality series Married at First Sight did.
This week’s episode saw a new AEW women’s champion crowned when fan-favorite Thunder Rosa defeated long-time champion Dr. Brit Baker in a cage match. The event also featured the second appearance of WWE tag team legends The Hardy Boyz as they faced Private Party.
AEW Dynamite airs Wednesday at 8 PM ET on TBS.
