Snagging an invite to the Met Gala at all is an honor. Making an impression on Anna Wintour while you’re there, surrounded by other influential humans in spectacularly over-the-top fashion? Pretty iconic, TBH.

In 2019, Kim Kardashian achieved the aforementioned iconic feat and had Wintour very intrigued, according to the Vogue EIC’s biographer, Amy Odell (her book is Anna: The Biography, if you need more Wintour intel in your life). Before we dig into what it was about Kim’s ~lewk~ that year that grabbed Wintour’s attention, let’s pause for a reminder of what Kim wore to the 2019 Met Gala:

And we would be remiss if we didn’t also admire the back of the dress, obvi:

Clearly, there was plenty about Kim’s look for the event (the theme of which was “Camp”) that was v attention-grabbing. Wintour took notice of Kim’s outfit for the night during dinner, when Kim behaved a little strangely.

“Hilariously in 2019, when [Kim] went to the camp [theme] gala, the last one before the pandemic, she wore a skintight latex Thierry Mugler gown that was so tight she couldn’t even sit down during dinner,” Odell told Entertainment Tonight. “So Anna is watching the scene unfold during dinner and she’s saying, ‘Why isn’t she sitting down? Why can’t Kim Kardashian sit down?’ Someone had to say, ‘Well, she just can’t sit down.'”

The 2022 Met Gala is upon us (on Monday night), so we don’t have too much longer to wait and see Kim’s interpretation of this year’s “Gilded Glamour” theme. She will have a little more family competition for attention-grabbing than usual though because, believe it or not, this is apparently the first year that all of the KarJenner women are on the guest list for the event.

“Everyone is scheduled to go,” a Condé Nast insider told Page Six.

I’m trying and honestly cannot think of a more amazing family photo op.
