The daily gossip: Mariah Carey wished Shawn Mendes a happy Thanksgiving yesterday, Adam Scott went to a lot of effort to get a fake ID, and more
We’ve been inundated with TV shows about scammers lately, but what about a story about an (alleged) scammer working on a TV show? A writer for Grey’s Anatomy, Elisabeth Finch, has been placed on leave amid an investigation into whether she lied about her medical history, something the writer’s room drew upon as inspiration. According to The Ankler, there are “serious concerns” that “at least parts of Finch’s life story” that she shared internally and publicly, including regarding her medical background, were made up. Finch has said she was diagnosed with bone cancer, had an abortion amid chemotherapy treatment, lost a kidney and part of her leg, was misdiagnosed by a doctor, and more, details she’s spoken and written about. But The Ankler claims Finch’s own wife, Jennifer Beyer, found out about her “alleged deceptions” and told Disney executives. In a statement, Shondaland said “only Elisabeth can speak to her personal story.” Stay tuned on how the probe plays out, but we look forward to seeing Hollywood somehow stretch this story out into an entire Inventing Anna-style series, too.
