Cohasset High grad Kate Bosworth (Class of 2001) plays the stepmother of a shy teenager trying to break out of her shell in the teen romance “Along for the  Ride.”

The movie is based on Sarah Dessen’s novel of the same name and will stream on Netflix on May 6. 

Set in the seaside town of Colby, the story follows Auden (Emma Pasarow) during  her last summer before college.  What was supposed to be a quiet few weeks hanging out with her dad (Dermot Mulroney) and his new wife (Bosworth) turns into the adventure of a lifetime for Auden.  For better or worse, a mysterious boy (Belmont Cameil) shows Auden all the things she missed out on while she was in high school. Andie MacDowell also co-stars.

Bosworth moved to Cohasset when she was 14. While at Cohasset High, she played soccer and lacrosse and was a member of the National Honor Society. In 2013, she donated a 50-foot red carpet to the school for its annual pre-prom gala on Cohasset Common.

Bosworth’s film credits include “Still Alice,” “Blue Crush,” “Superman Returns,” “The Horse Whisperer,” “Remember the Titans” and ”Straw Dogs.” Up next for the busy actress is the noir thriller “The Enforcer,” opposite Antonio Banderas, and the kidnap drama “The Locksmith,” which co-stars Ryan Phillipe and is due out in September.

Coopers coming to Plimoth Cinema

Kingston resident and Academy Award winner Chris Cooper and his wife, Marianne Leone Cooper,  will hold a special screening of their 11-minute short film “Nuts” at the Plimoth Cinema on May 14.

The movie is one of 13 vignettes in “With/In,” a star-studded, made-at-home COVID anthology revolving around themes of confinement and isolation. It tells the story of a   divorced couple isolating together for the sake of their dog. Chris makes his directorial debut in “Nuts,” working from a script written by Marianne,  and both performed. The movie was shot over two days at their Kingston home.
