This week’s biggest case was that of Hollywood actress Zara Phythian, who starred in Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie, and her husband, Victor Marke, who jointly denied 14 charges of sexual activity with a child. On Monday, May 16, Phythian will be sentenced alongside her 59-year-old husband, of Mavis Avenue, Ravenshead, after they were jointly convicted on Wednesday, May 11, on all counts.

Victor Marke also faces sentencing over four charges of indecent assault with another young victim after he touched her breasts under her clothing and performed two sexual acts on her. On Friday, May 13, MasterChef the Professionals contestant Haritier Nsemi was jailed for his role in a drugs supply plot with a woman who boasted about her abilities to “bash up” cocaine and heroin.

With talented dancer and DJ Oluwadamilola Ogunyankinnu, the two men perceived a potential market for selling Class A drugs in Retford, Nottinghamshire. They pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine with Ashleigh Ellis, a drug dealing mum who had fled a violent relationship. The 27-year-old, of Wadsworth Road, Bramley, Rotherham, was at premises where heroin and cocaine were found and was involved in the manufacture and preparation of the drugs for onward sale and providing drugs on credit. She was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years.

Nsemi, 32, of Mast Quay, Greenwich, was jailed for three years but has already served half of this on remand and will be released. Ogunyankinnu, 23, of Granville Road, Wood Green, North London. has already done 15 months on remand – half of the 30-month prison sentence imposed – and he is also expected to be released now. Another case heard on Friday, May 13, concerned a 17-year-old youth pleading guilty to having a ‘slam-gun’ in a room at a Nottingham hotel. A slam gun is an improvised firearm without a trigger, and is sometimes known as a ‘pipe gun’.

He admitted he had the gun – a prohibited weapon – which was less than 60cm in length overall. He will be sentenced at a later date. Nottingham Magistrates’ Court had heard the incident was at the Premier Inn, Goldsmith Street, Nottingham, on Thursday, December 30, last year.

And Daniel Jackson, 37, was jailed after he attacked a woman with a piece of glass while she was in the bath in Mansfield. He also assaulted the same woman a few months earlier – throwing a punch at her while he was drunk during an argument in the middle of the street.

Jackson, of Kingsway, Derby, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, May 10, where he denied any wrongdoing. A jury found him guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and criminal damage, and he was sentenced to 20 months in prison. Read the full story here

Bigamist already married when he wed at Nottingham’s Council House

A 52-year-old man admitted bigamy at Nottingham’s Council House when he appeared before the city’s crown court. Marcus Wild, of Lord Nelson Street, Sneinton, appeared on Thursday, May 12, smartly suited for a short plea and trial preparation hearing.

He spoke to confirm his name before the allegation was read out to him by the court clerk. He pleaded guilty to bigamy at the Council House during the life of his wife where he went through a form of marriage on May 5, 2021. He was granted unconditional bail before he is sentenced on July 14..
