Bette Davis home
The former home of Bette Davis is not found in Hollywood but almost an hour’s drive south away in oceanside Laguna Beach.
Perched atop a captivating oceanfront cliff, the French Normandy style estate appears on a registry of historic places and despite it being several decades since Davis lived there, locals still refer to it as as ‘the Bette Davis House’.
An exclusive and private retreat, it’s surrounded by lush greenery and offers breathtaking views of the ocean.
Built in 1929, the 508 square metre home features six bedrooms and eight bathrooms spread across a main house and guest house.
A private courtyard entrance takes you to the main entrance and dining terrace while stairs lead to a sunny lounge area with direct stair access to the beach below.
The main house, anchored by an exquisite great room, leads guests to the lookout room and adjoining family room with dining areas, all of which offer stunning views of the ocean.
The home has been updated throughout and features cathedral ceilings, solid oak floors and a central spiral staircase topped with a conical roof and spire.
The updated kitchen with eating nook offers stainless steel top-end appliances while upstairs is a master suite with interior Juliet balcony over a great room, a large ocean view terrace and updated ensuite featuring Carrara marble and heated floors.
There are two additional ensuite bedrooms while the lower level offers a large bar area, adjoining media room, wine cellar, gym and another bedroom with ocean views.
The separate guest house has two ensuite guest rooms, one within its own self-contained apartment.
There is also a three-car garage.
Frank Sinatra’s home
About a half-hour drive north-west of Hollywood in the suburban neighbourhood of Chatsworth, bordering the San Fernando Valley, you’ll find the iconic mid-century compound once occupied by legendary member of the Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra.
Built by acclaimed architect William Pereira, the property is being marketed as a chance to own a piece of Hollywood history.
The 758 square metre home has been restored to its former glory but the layout remains largely untouched, and includes seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and two half bathrooms.
Sitting securely behind secluded gates atop a hill, the property overlooks Chatsworth Preserve and offers 36-degree views of the nearby mountain ranges.
Visitors must make their way down a 1.5-kilometre long driveway taking you to the main residence where you will find a pool, large pergola and outdoor lounge area, separate gym and massage room all surrounded by mature landscaping and rolling lawns.
There are high ceilings and huge windows offering views to the outdoors and beyond.
A completely private guest house has its own pool and yard — perfect for a guest wanting to get away from it all. Marilyn Monroe once reportedly lived in the guesthouse.
If only the walls could talk.
