For almost two months, news headlines have been written and thousands of words expended to fill column inches all to do with the multi-million-dollar defamation trial taking place in Virginia. Hollywood actors, and former husband and wife, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have not only had their intimate, and often very ugly, relationship blown wide open for public consumption via journalist analysis, they have also had a live camera focused on them throughout the courtroom proceedings.

On Thursday 26 May, both sets of lawyers made their closing arguments, following which the jury was sent away by the judge to consider the evidence that had been laid out before them, reminded to focus only on that and not any pre-conceived ideas they may have had about the celebrities in question. No doubt, we expected, Depp and Heard would also retire to some peaceful setting to recover from what must have been a rather gruelling ordeal. It appears not, at least in Depp’s case.

Depp performs as jury deliberates

Although Depp is best known for his acting, having starred in films such as The Rum Diary, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Tourist, as well as in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, he is also a dab hand at the guitar, playing for the group Hollywood Vampires, which he set up in 2012 with Alice Cooper (the band name coming from his 1970s drinking club) and Joe Perry.

And over the weekend, as the jury deliberated, the man who made Jack Sparrow a household name was on stage as a surprise guest in Sheffield City Hall, England. It was part of Jeff Beck’s European Tour and the crowd were amazed to see Depp sing his cover of the John Lennon song, Isolation. As you can see below, there was a lot of love for the man on trial…

Alex maybe sums it up best for me…
