10 Things ‘The Kardashians’ Can Teach Men About Healthy Relationships
The Kardashians get a bad rap. (And we aren’t talking about any particular Kanye West song.) No, the most famous (and arguably most attractive) family in the world is often ridiculed for its shallowness, nepotism, tone-deafness, and overall idiocy. We’re as guilty of poking fun at them as the next site, but the reality of this reality TV clan is that they know a thing or two about the importance of relationships.
The Kardashians may not always get it right, but they try — to create and be in harmony, to be sensitive and inclusive, and to protect and push one another. As enviable as they are in many respects, in others they’re just like us: stumbling through this thing called life, trying to figure out what matters most and how to take care of the ones we love.
While men aren’t necessarily the target demographic for Hulu’s new series The Kardashians, there’s an abundance of lessons and insight about healthy relationships on the show that dudes could benefit from. To save you the painful task of sifting through the often-ridiculous and frivolous series, we did the binge-watching for you and have distilled down the wisdom therein into 10 useful tips.

Family Comes First
At the end of the day, the only thing worth doing is creating a family (whatever that means to you) and loving the fuck out of them. These people are your ride or die. If the woman you’re with has kids, guess what? They’re a package deal. If you can’t handle that, you don’t deserve her.

Be Her Biggest Supporter
So many women have untapped potential, and part of the reason why is they have unsupportive partners. What could your special someone do if she had more time, resources, and energy? Where can you pick up the slack so she can pursue her passions?

Be Discreet
We get it. You nab the girl of your dreams and it’s hard to keep your hands off her. But maybe don’t make out in the presence of others, especially, um, at dinner with her mom.

Grand Gestures Matter
Romance is still a thing, you guys. And if you’re going to do it, go big or go back to your man cave. Certain milestones in a relationship demand grand gestures. You don’t have to invite her whole family to a surprise engagement party (in fact, we can’t think of a woman alive who wants to be surprised by that) but you definitely need to make the moment you pop the question as memorable as possible.

It Takes 2 (Or More) To Make a Baby
While it’s wonderful when old-fashioned baby-making works, the fact is that one in eight couples experience infertility and need help to grow their families. Assisted reproduction is not for wimps, and while women bear the brunt of the struggle, men need to do more than just show up and hold her hand. If she wants to do some week-long woo-hoo detox, you’re doing it with her, man.

Even Wonder Woman Needs a Hero Sometimes
She may seem like she can do it all (and even wants to), but everyone needs an assist sometimes. If she’s facing a challenge – like, say, an X-rated tape that just won’t die – and you can intervene, by all means, do so.
-
Give a Girl a Heads Up
If you, ya know, cheat on her and impregnate another woman (hey, it happens), ‘fess up in private before social media catches wind of the infidelity and the rumor mill reaches her while a camera is rolling.

Boundaries Are Healthy
If you disrespect a woman for years on end, don’t be surprised when she kicks you to the curb. And when she does, don’t act like a man baby because she doesn’t want you to haunt her family gatherings anymore. Boundaries are healthy, and she deserves to live her life as she sees fit without worrying if you’re going to be offended or hurt.

Don’t Be an Asshole Ex
Trashing your ex online is a douche move, especially if she’s the mother of your children. If you need to vent about what went wrong, there are trained professionals you can pay to listen to you complain in a private, confidential setting. Just don’t drag her name through the mud online. And, please, whatever you do, don’t record a rap song about her new man.
