In the past few years, we have experienced new episodes of Star Wars that bring us new characters like Rey, Finn, and the alleged new Sith Lord Kylo Ren. Episodes 6,7,8 and 9 are continuations of the original Star Wars 4, 5, and 6. Coming to Disney+ on May 27th will be the release of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’, a long-anticipated show that follows the journey of Obi-Wan Kenobi after the events of the rise of Darth Vader in episode 3 ‘Revenge of the Sith’, the show has cast Ewan McGregor who is the original Obi-Wan throughout the Star Wars series. If you are completely new to Star Wars, fear not, let’s go through what to watch in preparation for this story.
Confused you must be, But if You Do Try, You Will Accomplish What is Needed, and Among The Jedi You Will Be
If you are completely new to the Star Wars franchise then allow me to guide you. The Star Wars series can be confusing to follow at first, let’s look at episodes 4, 5, and 6. Episode 4 was the first of the franchise, its title is ‘A New Hope’ in this episode we meet the Jedi-to-be Luke Skywalker. Luke unknowingly carries powers of force, the force is the energy of all living things that surround you and can manipulate energies at will. Luke goes on a journey with his mentor Ben Kenobi as he tells Luke of his destiny to become a Jedi, this fills Luke’s ambition to be a powerful Jedi like his father before him. The franchise continued in 1980 with Episode 5 ‘Empire Strikes Back’ where we meet Luke again on his journey to be a Jedi and learn he is the last one by episode 6 ‘Return of The Jedi’.

Those 3 films are the foundation of the whole series. The story goes deeper as we learn about the origins of Luke’s father Darth Vader a.k.a Anakin Skywalker, this brought us episodes 1, 2, and 3 of the series that gives us an insight into how the Jedi were formed and what their mission was to bring balance to the force with the help of the chosen one Anakin Skywalker. to recap, those episodes are past stories of Jedi before Luke Skywalker. Episodes 6, 7, 8, and 9 are stories during Luke’s older years and see the new generation of Jedi that are seen in the movies and comics. There are also stories besides the movies that have been developed through multimedia sources, these sources are amongst cartoon series, video games, and comics. The Cartoon series is available on Disney+ as you follow the story of ‘The Clone Wars’ a Disney series that follows Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Jedi Ahsoka Tano which will be getting a mini-series of her own on Disney+ in early 2023.

Star Wars Timeline
You now know the basics of the franchise! but before I can promote you to official Star Wars Fan let’s take a look at where ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ will be placed on the Star Wars franchise timeline, this will give you a clear understanding of what you’re watching when you’re watching, and who you’re watching. From the trailer released by Disney, the story will be taking place after episode 3 ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and just before ‘Rogue One’ and Episode 4 ‘A New Hope’. This is precise during the futuristic witch hunt as Order 66 was issued to wipe out the entire Jedi race given by Darth Sidious a.k.a Emperor Palpatine.

Soon Before the order was given Luke Skywalker had been born but was immediately moved to a remote planet by the name of Tatooine. Tatooine is significant as this is where Anakin was raised as a child as seen in episode 1 ‘The Phantom Menace’, Tatooine is a desert planet inhabited by ruthless thugs and where danger lurks at every corner. Obi-Wan must watch over the baby Jedi Luke from a distance in the series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and must also keep his identity a secret as Jedi are being hunted and executed if found, The series is noted to take place just before ‘Rogue One’ where plans of building a Death Star are in place to take effect and help Darth Vader take over the galaxy.
There, you know possess the knowledge needed to understand ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and be prepared for its anticipated release to Disney+ on May 27th, 2022. Along with the beloved returning cast members, even with Darth Vader himself Hayden Christiansen, the series is directed by Deborah Chow who helped Jon Favreau on the other hit Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian’ which is expected to have a season 3 released during the 2022 holiday season. The series has so many stories with more on the way, for gamers, I would recommend playing ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ which allows the player to travel the galaxy as Cal Kestis who is another Jedi-born into the traumatic story of the end of the Jedi. Remember, May the force be with you.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, “We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.
I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV. media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.”
