After two years of pandemic disruptions, the Academy Awards’ red carpet is officially back – and in a big way.

It was red hot at the 94th Oscars – with plenty of stars, glam and excitement.

From the wildly extravagant to the wackily bizarre, the celebs decided to go all out.

While some stars opted for classic and elegant, what would an Oscars red carpet be without the truly bizarre?

Here are some of the real eye-openers of the big event.

Jada Pinkett Smith

The colour was perfectly lovely but the material? A metallic version of crunched lettuce, and so much of it!

Jada’s train was enormous and looked a little bit like a massive ball of scrunchies trailing behind her.

Kristen Stewart

When we say most people went all out in the high glam stakes, we mean everyone except … Kristen Stewart, who basically wore a pair of shorts to the biggest Hollywood event of the year.

Now, we know Kristen likes an edgy, cool-girl style, but really? Shorts, an unbuttoned shirt and an 80s-style sideswept ‘do doesn’t really cut it on Hollywood’s night of nights.

Chloe Bailey

Singer Chloe Bailey flashed the flesh in a cutaway dress that didn’t leave much to the imagination.

Her sister Halle echoed the trend.

When will this side-split, clearly-I-am-wearing-no-undies trend be over?

And Chloe’s shoes? Not a fan.

Billie Eilish

We all love Billie, right? But it’s hard to love this voluminous black ruffle gown.

Still, we’re imagining Billie could eat and drink as much as she likes during the ceremony and no feel too uncomfortable.

Rickey Thompson

Actor, comedian and internet star Rickey Thompson wore a caped outfit with a sheer mid-section studded with multi-coloured adornments and flared pants.

Carolina Gaitan

If a trend could be discerned from this year’s red carpet, it’s VOLUME!

Go big or go home seemed to be the message of the day, with Carolina Gaitan one mind-boggling illustration.

There was so much going on with this dress it was hard to know where to look first.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal wore a black column gown with odd, exaggerated shoulders and unusual gold embellishments that looked like giant doorknockers.

Venus Williams and Tracee Ellis Ross

Cleavage-revealing gowns were another big trend.

But a couple of stars, including Venus Williams, and Tracee Ellis Ross, risked serious wardrobe malfunctions with their gown choices.

Here’s hoping these ladies were wearing plenty of Hollywood tape!
