There are some big movies debuting on Sky Cinema this month, including survival thriller Beast, the animated DC League of Super-Pets, and Jordan Peele’s latest slice of sci-fi horror, Nope. Also available to Sky/Now subscribers this month is Dreamland, a seaside-set comedy series about a very dysfunctional family.

1st April

Emily The Criminal (2022)

Aubrey Plaza stars in this critically acclaimed comedy-drama as a young woman named Emily who is unable to find a job to pay off her student debt due to a minor criminal record. Desperate for income, she foolishly gets involved in a credit card scam that leads to dangerous consequences when she is pulled into the criminal underworld of LA.

Shaq (Sky Documentaries)

Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal is the subject of this 4-part docuseries that examines his ascent into game-changing stardom and his life both on and off the court.

6th April 

Dreamland: Season 1 (Sky Comedy)

Lily Allen and Freema Agyeman headline the cast of this seaside-set comedy series that explores the secrets, lies, loves, and aspirations of the female members of a very dysfunctional family. Frances Barber and Aimee-Ffion Edwards also star in this six-parter that has been produced by Sharon Horgan.

7th April

The Portable Door (2023)

When Paul Carpenter (Patrick Gibson) starts a new job at a mysterious London firm, he has no idea of the troubles that lie in store for him. As he explores the dark corridors of his new workplace with fellow employee Sophie (Sophie Wilde), he discovers a Portable Door that opens the way to limitless possibilities. Sam Neill and Christophe Waltz star as Paul’s sinister employers who have a very peculiar agenda! Based on the novel by Tom Holt.

8th April

The Forgiven (2021)

When wealthy Londoners David (Ralph Fiennes) and Jo (Jessica Chastain) accidentally kill a young Moroccan boy when on their way to a lavish party, they try to cover up the crime with the help of their host (Matt Smith) and the corrupt local police. But when the boy’s father turns up at the gathering looking for answers, David and Jo are forced to face up to their actions.

9th April

Dig (2022)

Thomas Jane stars in this thriller about a widowed father and daughter (real-life daughter Harlow Jane) who are taken hostage by a dangerous couple who have a vested interest in their scheduled-to-be-demolished property.

11th April

Peter O’Toole: Along the Sky Road to Aqaba (Sky Arts)

In The Name Of The Father director, Jim Sheridan, reflects on the life and theatrical legacy of legendary hellraiser Peter O’Toole. The actor’s story is told through interviews with the people who knew him best

14th April

DC League of Super-Pets (2022)

When Superman is kidnapped, it’s up to his pet pooch – Krypto the Super-Dog- and a courageous group of rescue animals (including a pig that can grow to giant size) to save him and the rest of the Justice League from a villainous band of guinea-pigs!

15th April

Beast (2022)

A father and his teenage daughters are hunted by a massive rogue lion while journeying across the savannahs of South Africa. Will they become lion food? Idris Elba heads the cast of this suspenseful survival thriller.

16th April

Hunt (2022)

Squid Game actor Lee Jung-jae directs and stars in this South Korean thriller about members of the Korean Spy Agency who are tasked with finding a spy who is deeply embedded within their organization.

21st April

Nope (2022)

Jordan Peele’s latest movie was compared to Close Encounters Of The Third Kind in the days leading up to its release but Nope is far more than just a sci-fi movie about the aftermath of a UFO sighting. Look closer into the story and you will discover a movie that satirizes our obsession with spectacle and the marginalization of Black people in Hollywood. Peele’s movie is still entertaining so you don’t have to watch this as a message movie but don’t be surprised if you see yourself reflected in the mirror he holds up to those who crave entertainment.

23rd April

My Neighbour Adolf (2022)

What would you do if you discovered your new neighbour was Adolf Hitler? This is the dilemma faced by a man named Polsky (David Hayman), a Holocaust survivor, who suspects the mysterious gentleman (Udo Kier) who has moved in next door is the presumed dead dictator who ordered the extinction of his people.

28th April

A Good Person (2023)

Florence Pugh stars in Zach Braff’s latest movie as Alison, a successful young woman whose world falls apart after she is involved in an accident that takes the life of her sister-in-law. Consumed by grief, Alison gets the opportunity to self-heal when she forms an unlikely friendship with Daniel (Morgan Freeman), her husband’s father.

29th April

Resurrection (2022)

After a traumatic past, single mother and career woman Margaret (Rebecca Hall) seems to have put her life back together. But just as everything seems to be going to plan for this emotionally scarred woman, her past returns to haunt her when an old face reappears. Tim Roth also stars in this critically acclaimed horror-thriller.

30th April

Piggy (2022)

This Spanish horror-thriller focuses on Sara, an overweight teen who is bullied by her classmates and a clique of ‘cool girls’ who are holidaying in her village. When she witnesses three of her tormentors being abducted by a strange man, she has a decision to make. Should she tell the police about the kidnappings? Or should she let the girls suffer at the hands of their captor?
