Samuel L Jackson seen on set during filming of the Marvel Disney Plus series Secret Invasion at The Piece Hall on January 26, 2022 in Halifax, England.

Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury for the upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion. Marvel Studios released a new two-minute trailer on Sunday night (April 2). The film is set in the present-day MCU. And Fury learns that shapeshifting Skrulls have been infiltrating Earth to take over and make it their home.

Joining Nick Fury is former CIA agent Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman), his right hand Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and the Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who has made a peaceful life for himself on Earth. Together, they must thwart the imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity. Secret Invasion uses the events of Marvel’s Captain Marvel movie as a jumping-off point. We see that Fury hasn’t been on Earth. He’s been in space for years, as we learned in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Trailer Breakdown

Mendelsohn’s Talos tells Fury, “Since you’ve been gone, things have gotten much worse.” The next shot in the upcoming political thriller is a scene where Moscow’s Kremlin gets blown up. The man who we see detonating the explosion is Kingsley Ben-Adir. He plays Gravik, the leader of a group of rebel Skrulls. They believe the best way to protect their race is by taking over Earth and its resources.

Fury visits his own grave with Olivia Colman, who plays Sonya Falsworth, a high-ranking MI6 agent and an “old friend” of Fury’s. Emilia Clarke is seen looking into a room filled with dormant bodies, possibly government officials whom the Skrulls have taken the identities of. Clarke plays Talos’ daughter, G’iah. Her character, who we first saw as a kid in Captain Marvel, sided with the Skrull radicals.

G’iah’s Story

Clarke teased about the relationship between her and her father in the series, telling Vanity Fair, “It’s hardened her for sure. There’s a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl. She’s a refugee kid who’s had Talos for a dad. Maybe the fact that we didn’t know he had a kid up until this point tells you everything you need to know about their relationship.”

“This war is one I have to fight. Alone,” Fury says. In the next scene, a helicopter fires a missile at a vehicle. Clarke’s G’iah is hovering over a body in despair, seeming to be her father. In another quick flash, we see Talos badly hurt on the road next to a vehicle. Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes/War Machine tells Fury, “You are the most wanted man on the planet.” If Talos does die, Fury’s list of allies is getting shorter as the Skrulls make their move.

The trailer concludes with Fury walking away saying, “One last fight.” Rounding out the cast is Charlayne Woodard playing the role of Fury’s wife Priscilla, Killian Scott as a Skrull named Fiz and Dermot Mulroney as President Ritson. Christopher McDonald, Samuel Adewunmi and Katie Finneran play unknown roles.

Secret Invasion is set to premiere on Disney+ on June 21.
