‘Top ten life moment’: Hollywood actor and Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds invades pitch after watching first win
Hollywood actor and Wrexham AFC co-owner Ryan Reynolds has been serenaded by the club’s fans before invading the pitch to celebrate with goal-scoring hero Paul Mullin.
Wrexham’s fans were singing ‘’there’s only one Ryan Reynolds” in the final minutes of the 2-0 upset win that booked the fifth division side a place in the FA Trophy – contested by semi-professional teams – at Wembley.
Best known for his role in Deadpool, the actor was in attendance at the Racecourse Ground in north Wales to witness his first win in person after previously attending an away loss to Maidenhead United and a draw at home with Torquay.
Reynolds and fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney bought one of the world’s oldest football teams late in 2020 and plan to document their first foray into the sport in a fly-on-the-wall TV show.

And they got some standout content in the FA Trophy semifinal at the weekend with Mullen’s double, both in stoppage time, ending Stockport County’s 21-game unbeaten streak and booking an unlikely spot in the final.
Mullin, the former Cambridge star, scored his first against the run of play with a perfect chip, from just outside of the penalty area, that sailed over the keeper and into the corner of the net.
“Seeing this in person was a top ten life moment for me. Thank you, Wrexham,” Reynolds posted to Twitter with a clip of Mullin’s first goal.
Mullin then scored again in added time to seal the deal.
Following the game, Mullin – who was the first major signing Reynolds and McElhenney brought to the club – got a big hug from Reynolds who had charged onto the pitch to celebrate with his players.
Wrexham AFC manager Phil Parkinson told reporters post-match that he never gave up on the game with his goal-scoring ace Mullin on the pitch.
“There was a bit of edginess in the first half and some uncharacteristic errors from both sides, but there was a lot at stake.
“But I thought we grew into the game and a couple of really good chances to take the lead and didn’t take them.
“But with Mulls on the pitch you always believe that you’re going to get a goal,” Parkinson said.
The Welsh club will now turn their attention back to the National League before heading to Wembley on May 23 (NZT) for the FA Trophy against Bromley.
