Stunned is the word to describe what I felt after seeing A24’s ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, made me fall in love with being alive and appreciate everyone in my life because in the grand scheme of things we’re all just humans trying to find our purpose in the everlasting universe. It’s amazing how this film has a simple premise of a big-hearted sci-fi adventure about an exhausted Chinese woman (Michelle Yeoh) who can’t seem to finish her taxes and then takes you on an emotional journey that you will absolutely enjoy. I’ve never felt so much emotion about a film before and I’m already excited to watch it again and again.

Everything

When it comes to life, everything matters to us, every single little thing because our decisions can lead us down a different path, no matter how big or small the decision is. This film makes you think about the decisions you made in your life and think about the what if’s. Those what if’s can lead to regret because it feels like you wasted time and potential of what you could’ve been if you weren’t held back by something or someone. Personally for me, when I have an important decision to make in my life, I often think about how it will benefit me and if it’s worth it because I hate regretting not doing something just because I was afraid of the outcome. The film reminded me of all the decisions I made in this life and I realize I wasn’t filled with regret because I believe that everything happens for a reason and I’m on the correct life path, therefore, seeing this film reminded me that I’m exactly where I need to be.

The actors in this film did a remarkable job at showing that everything matters but at the same time nothing matters because we’re all just insecure humans worrying about one another instead of focusing on bettering ourselves. The main cast is Michelle Yeoh as Evelyn Wang, Ke Huy Quan as Waymond Wang, Stephanie Hsu as Joy Wang, James Hong as Gong Gong Wang, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Deirdre Beaubeirdra, they were a pleasure to watch on screen. Everything really does matter in this film because not a second is wasted and the costuming and set design are also incredible and unique. Your eyes are glued to the screen because you don’t want to miss a single second and you want to truly take in everything this film is throwing at you because it’s all magical and magnificent to watch. I’ve always enjoyed films that are constantly moving the plot forward in a mind-blowing way because I never know what to expect next and that’s what keeps my brain on its toes.

Everywhere

Sometimes when you’re lying in bed trying to fall asleep, you start thinking about the universe and how we’re on a floating rock rotating around the sun. Then you think about why we as a society care so much about superficial things because at any moment an asteroid can come and end the world as we know it. This film questions why we should care about life and the people in our lives because yes in the end we’re all going to die but why not have fun while we’re in here. This film tackles the cynical people, who think life is pointless and just is pessimistic about everything while there are the optimistic people who are there with open arms to show them that even the little things in life matter. I think this film shows you the balance between pessimism and optimism because to experience a fulfilling life, you have to feel the lows and highs.

There are three acts and it’s the title of the film, Act 1 is “Everything”, Act 2 is “Everywhere”, and Act 3 is “All at Once”. Dividing this film into acts lines up with Evelyn’s progressing spirituality in the film. I fell in love with this film because of how spirituality is intertwined in the plot and it is more relatable or confusing depending on the type of person you ask. The film isn’t blatant with it either, therefore, I caught it right away because currently, I’m on a spiritual journey of discovering myself and figuring out what life’s all about while balancing more responsibility as I get older. It’s tough to balance and it made me connect with Evelyn more because sometimes life gets stressful to the point you lose yourself and the love for life, also it’s easier to fall into bad habits that society ingrained in you.

All at Once

The current trend of the film must be dealing with generational trauma because this film tackles the topic as well and in a beautiful unforgettable way. I’m glad this film showed the perspective of someone older dealing with the trauma because it shows that in order to maintain a healthy relationship with your family, you must be able to grow with each other and not be afraid of change. It’s really amazed me the way the film shows Evelyn’s relationship with her family because it touches my heart and it reminds me of the love I have for my family. It makes it relatable to romantic relationships as well because it’s so easy to stop trying in a relationship and to lose the love you once had for them.

‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’

I really loved how this film shows how significant others can learn from each other while showing you what love is all at once. Having a love for anything is an overwhelming feeling that you wouldn’t trade for the world because it feels like the universe hugging you and it’s a very euphoric feeling. Life is really all about loving one another and just being kind to each other because life is always beating us up in different ways so why not be kind. Take a chance to understand one another before judging because everyone has a story and everyone deserves respect. I highly recommend ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ because it’s an outstanding film and is now the best film I’ve seen in my entire life so in end I give the film 10 out of 10 googly eyes.

An excerpt from the love letter: The Hollywood Insider’s CEO/editor-in-chief Pritan Ambroase affirms, We have the space and time for all your stories, no matter who/what/where you are. Media/Cinema/TV have a responsibility to better the world and The Hollywood Insider will continue to do so. Talent, diversity and authenticity matter in Cinema/TV, media and storytelling. In fact, I reckon that we should announce “talent-diversity-authenticity-storytelling-Cinema-Oscars-Academy-Awards” as synonyms of each other. We show respect to talent and stories regardless of their skin color, race, gender, sexuality, religion, nationality, etc., thus allowing authenticity into this system just by something as simple as accepting and showing respect to the human species’ factual diversity. We become greater just by respecting and appreciating talent in all its shapes, sizes, and forms. Award winners, which includes nominees, must be chosen on the greatness of their talent ALONE.

I am sure I am speaking for a multitude of Cinema lovers all over the world when I speak of the following sentiments that this medium of art has blessed me with. Cinema taught me about our world, at times in English and at times through the beautiful one-inch bar of subtitles. I learned from the stories in the global movies that we are all alike across all borders. Remember that one of the best symbols of many great civilizations and their prosperity has been the art they have left behind. This art can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, writings, inventions, etc. For our modern society, Cinema happens to be one of them. Cinema is more than just a form of entertainment, it is an integral part of society. I love the world uniting, be it for Cinema, TV. media, art, fashion, sport, etc. Please keep this going full speed.
