The debut season of Alone Australia has proven to be a ratings winner, showcasing our State to audiences across the world.
The reality series premiered on SBS and SBS on Demand last month and has already become the highest rating program for the broadcaster this year, to date.
According to OzTAM data, the first episode has racked up nearly 1 million views. Subsequent episodes have drawn in excess of 800,000 viewers across metro, regional and SBS on Demand audiences.
The most recent episode for which such figures are available (episode 4) reveals a total TV audience of 826,000 viewers across the week, putting Alone in the top 10 shows of the night alongside news, current affairs, comedy and reality series.
Elise Archer, Minister for the Arts said this is the first Australian version of the globally successful television concept, and the producers chose Tasmania as their base.
“The program’s success demonstrates Tasmania’s appeal as a filming destination, shot here in our unique West Coast and Tasmanian wilderness,” Minister Archer said.
“Projects like this contribute significantly to Tasmania’s economy and to the professional development and opportunities for Tasmanians working in the screen industry.
“The Tasmanian Government, through Screen Tasmania, supported the attachment of emerging producer Georgia Stone to the production. Georgia was one of a number of Tasmanian creative and production crew members involved in the filming of Alone Australia.”
Prior to entering the wilderness, the 10 participants in the show received training from award-winning Tasmanian filmmaker Tim Noonan in self-filming techniques, which were used to capture footage shown in the program.
