‘Inside Out 2’ Becomes 10th Highest-Grossing Animated Film in U.S.
After 12 days in theaters, “Inside Out 2” has made $387.8 million in North America, pushing it into the list of top ten domestic animated box offices of all time.
‘Inside Out 2’ Reaches New Heights
“Inside Out 2” has passed “Minions: The Rise of Gru” ($370M), “Finding Nemo” ($381M), and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” ($382M). It will next pass “Frozen,” which made $400.9M domestically.
Internationally, “Inside Out 2” has made $411.9M in 44 markets, for a total of $799.7M. It’s on its way to passing the global total of “Inside Out,” $859M, before inevitably hitting $1B.
When it comes to animated films, “Incredibles 2” holds the top spot for domestic box office with $608M while “Frozen II” is number one worldwide with $1.45B — unless you count the 2019 CGI remake of “The Lion King,” which totaled $1.66B. “Incredibles 2” had the largest opening weekend for an animated film, which “Inside Out 2” didn’t quite beat.
“Inside Out 2” made $18.4M in North America on Tuesday, June 25, marking the highest non-December second Tuesday of all time. The film’s first Tuesday was already record-breaking as the highest-grossing Tuesday ever for an animated film.
The sequel is the highest-grossing U.S.A. release so far this year. The movie’s success marks a big turnaround for Pixar, which was hit with a series of bad luck starting when the COVID-19 pandemic hit days after the release of “Onward” in 2020. Their next few films were released on Disney+, while “Lightyear” and “Elemental” left theaters with low box office numbers.
