The 94th Academy Awards are here! We’ll be updating over the course of the evening as the winners are announced — a full list will be available once the ceremony comes to an end.
This year’s Academy Awards opened with tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, whose beginnings as athletes were portrayed in the movie King Richard. They introduced a video featuring Beyoncé singing the Oscar-nominated song “Be Alive.”
The hosts Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall were then introduced. Amy joked that the Academy hired three women to host because it was cheaper than hiring one man. They riffed on how hard the pandemic was on everyone, pointing out how much older Timothée Chalamet looked (as the camera focused on J.K. Simmons), how long The Power of the Dog was to watch and the “holes” in Samuel L. Jackson’s resumé (no rom-coms). Amy Schumer quipped that Leonardo DiCaprio had done so much to fight climate change, in order to save the planet for his girlfriends.
Regina did a hilarious sketch in which she called up a number of hunks to the stage in order for her to further “test” them for COVID.
We are up updating winners as they are announced, please refresh for the latest. ~Alexandra Heilbron
