Amazing Spider-Man Star Andrew Garfield Taking Break From Acting
Andrew Garfield, the star of the Amazing Spider-Man series, who recently reprised his version of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, has revealed he plans to take a rest from acting.
The actor has come to the decision to spend some time away from acting after his recent performance in Under the Banner of Heaven, which sees him playing a Mormon detective investigating a brutal murder committed by religious fundamentalists. Explorations of religious belief have formed a key element of many of Andrew Garfield’s films, including Martin Scorsese’s Silence and Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, despite the actor not being religious himself.
Speaking to Variety, Andrew Garfield revealed that he plans “to rest for a little bit,” after what has undoubtedly been a busy period, following appearances in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Tick, Tick… Boom!, Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Under the Banner of Heaven. Garfield explained:
“I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for awhile. Because as you know, that is a washing machine, that awards season … I need to just be a bit ordinary for a while.”
After Andrew Garfield’s string of recent performances in critically acclaimed projects – Tick, Tick… Boom! landed the former Spider-Man his second Oscar nomination – his plan to get a bit of a break from the world of acting is entirely understandable.
Andrew Garfield can be seen reprising the role of Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here’s the official synopsis:
