We’re all guilty of embellishing our CV a bit.

But 18-year-old rising star Charlotte Maggi said she could ride a dirt bike during an audition for ABC’s MaveriX.

Spoiler — she couldn’t — and even now with a few lessons under her belt, she’s not betting on a career in motocross.

“They’re like ‘can you run a dirt bike?’ when I did the audition and I was like ‘yeah I’ve done that before’,” Maggi told AAA.

“I completely stacked it when I had to get on.”

But her natural talent for the screen shone through and the West Leederville-raised actor was offered the job anyway, when she was on the school bus of all places.

“(My agent) called me and was like yeah you’ve got the job,” she said.

“I was on a school bus. So I didn’t want to scream but people were kind of turning around looking at me.”

Maggi and the crew spent 2½ months shooting the series — which follows young motocross riders and debuted last month — in Central Australia last year. It is the same location where well-known films like The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert were filmed.

Not bad for her debut TV role.

“You couldn’t ask for a better job to be honest,” she said. “Just constantly having fun. And you’re on a dirt bike, just so cool.

“You just see these MacDonnell Ranges which were massive and there was red earth everywhere and it definitely pulled you in . . . you were just always blown away by this natural landscape. So that for me was really special.”

Just a few months later Maggi was in another unlikely place, Leavers, when she received a callback for the Zack Snyder directed sci-fi, Rebel Moon.

“I was at Leavers when I got the callback and that callback was to meet with Zack Snyder, so that was on a Zoom call . . . that was crazy, he’s the biggest director of 2022,” she said.

Maggi flew to Los Angles last month to start work on the film, which is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened.

“I really really wanted this role because, this one in particular, the character I really connected to,” she said.

“I just found there was a lot of crossovers in our personalities and I just thought this would be such a cool concept because it was originally a Star Wars script.

“I still can’t comprehend how big the production is. It’s just very hard for me to get a grip on it. Everyone’s reminding me and I’m just like ‘I don’t think I actually realise how big it is’.

“I think I’m still in shock probably.”
