Chris Rock on ‘Kardashians’ post-slap, praises Kim’s ‘SNL’ monologue
Chris Rock makes a cameo on the new “Kardashians” reality show, his first TV appearance since Will Smith infamously slapped him at the Oscars last month.
The third episode, which debuted Thursday on Hulu, was shot pre-slap, filmed around the time Kim Kardashian hosted “Saturday Night Live” in October. But it marks the first time Rock has made a new TV appearance since the controversial Oscars moment.
Following Kardashian’s hosting gig, she was joined at an after party by her family, “SNL” cast and several stars who made cameos in the episode, including Rock, Blake Griffin, Tyler Cameron and Amy Schumer.
“You were great,” Rock told the reality star as Gayle King listened in. “From the opening monologue, it was like ‘I am in control.’ It was like, comedy funny. It was like (you were) an actress or a comedian.”
Kardashian beamed and turned directly to the camera, a la “The Office”: “Did you hear that? I want to make sure you got what he said. I was funny.”
“She was very funny,” Rock confirmed.
Later in a confessional interview, Kardashian said Rock “made my life” with his compliments.
“Like, I’m not funny,” she said. “So the fact that he gave me this crazy compliment? I think he’s one of the all-time funniest people on the planet so I am just, like, dying inside.”

Kardashian made her “SNL” debut on Oct. 9 (which also introduced her to now-boyfriend Pete Davidson) and enlisted an all-star cast of comedians to help with her monologue. Previously on “The Kardashians,” she revealed Schumer, Dave Chappelle and Michelle Wolf were among the comics who helped brainstorm jokes poking fun at her famous family.
“I know. I’m surprised to see me here, too,” Kardashian said in the monologue of her debut. “When they asked, I was like, ‘You want me to host? Why? I haven’t had a movie premiere in a really long time.’ “

Rock was the subject of endless headlines last month after Smith slapped him onstage during the Academy Awards over a joke made about Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith has since apologized and was banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years.
Rock has made few public comments about the incident – his mom, meanwhile, recently said when Smith slapped her son, “he slapped all of us” – save for briefly addressing it just three days after the altercation while performing a sold-out show in Boston at the Wilbur Theater, saying he was “still kind of processing what happened.”
“Other than the weird thing, life is pretty good,” Rock said midway through his first of two sets. “How was your weekend?”

Rock didn’t mention Smith or Pinkett Smith by name at his show. Wearing all white, he seemed to be almost embarrassed by the multiple ovations he received. As the applause carried on for minutes – with fans yelling “I love you, Chris!” – the comedian appeared to be getting emotional, a guest seated near the stage told The Associated Press.
But he made clear he wasn’t going to talk at length about it yet: “If you came to hear that, I’m not … I had like a whole show I wrote before this weekend,” Rock said.
