August brought another slew of celebrity sightings and juicy gossip to Connecticut. Here are some of the Hollywood headlines that hit the state recently.
‘Real Housewives’ star hosts event
New Canaan
The Agency, a Los Angeles-based company founded by Mauricio Umansky, hosted a ribbon cutting for its first Connecticut location in New Canaan. Umansky, who has been featured on “Million Dollar Lisiting” on Bravo, not to mention “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” alongside wife Kyle Richards, gave a speech in which he said that “New Canaan is a lot of fun.” After the event, Umansky was spotted at The White Buffalo bar in town for the after party.
Music mogul Clive Davis spotted

Bedford, N.Y. resident and music mogul Clive Davis was seen at L’Escale at the Delamar in Greenwich having dinner with WOR radio host Mark Simone; woman’s rights activist/philanthropist Francine LeFrak; director/screenwriter Rick Friedberg; and interior designer Greg Schriefer.

The Hey Stamford! food festival returned to the city last month with a performance by early aughts rapper Nelly — known best for songs like “Hot in Herre” and “Ride Wit Me” — will headline the festival on its first Saturday evening.

On his way up to Boston, John Mayer posted a photo of the highway exit to his hometown of Fairfield with the following caption:
“On the road up to Boston. I always like to look out the window when we pass my old hometown of Fairfield, CT. It’s my opportunity to take inventory of the passage of time, and for one moment – and a couple of miles – reflect on how profound and formerly unbelievable it is to pass exit 24 from inside a tour bus.”

Comedian and actor Tracy Morgan was spotted at Charley’s Pier Restaurant & Tiki Bar at Rye Playland in Rye, N.Y.

Actor Richard Gere was seen at the Bedford Post Inn. The Pound Ridge, N.Y., resident is the co-owner of the historic property on Old Post Road in Bedford, N.Y., that houses two restaurants and a luxury inn.

Greenwich
Former New York Knicks all-star and Greenwich resident Allan Houston, who is now a special assistant to the Knicks general manager, was seen dining at Tony’s at the JHouse in Riverside recently.

Danbury
The story of the Danbury Trashers, who played at the Danbury Ice Arena from 2004-2006, is one of on-ice violence and off-ice scandal. The short-lived team was known for plenty during that time: having more penalty minutes in one season than any other team, having a 17-year old president, A.J. Galante and his father being an alleged member of the Genovese crime family. On Aug. 31, 2021, the documentary “Untold: Crime & Penalties” premiered on Netflix exploring the story of the team and its infamous fights that invigorated fans at the Danbury Ice Arena. The team became embroiled in the FBI’s take down of James (Jimmy) Galante, A.J.’s father and a trash magnate with ties to the mob and the Genovese crime family.
Another Hallmark movie filming
Old Lyme and Essex
A new Hallmark holiday movie is getting ready to film here in Connecticut. “Next Stop Christmas,” starring Daytime Emmy winner Erika Slezak, who portrayed Victoria Lord on the daytime drama “One Life to Live,” was scheduled to start shooting in Old Lyme and Essex.
HBO show filming in Westchester
Purchase, NY
The cast and crew of the HBO series “The Time Traveler’s Wife” were seen filming in nearby Purchase, N.Y. at Manhattanville College. The HBO series based on Audrey Niffenegger’s novel, stars “Game of Thrones” actor Rose Leslie and “Divergent’s” Theo James. Production also took place in Yonkers, N.Y. on Alexander Street and Dock Street and in Pleasantville, N.Y. at the Pleasantville Pharmacy, Nonna Square and at the 76 gas station.

Some well-known faces from the media were seen having dinner together at L’Escale at the Delamar in Greenwich. Ray Kelly, the longest-serving commissioner in the history of New York Police Department; his wife Veronica Kelly; and son Greg Kelly, host of “Greg Kelly Reports” on Newsmax TV, dined out on the patio with Greenwich resident and WOR radio host Mark Simone; conservative media pundit, author and lawyer Ann Coulter; women’s rights activist and philanthropist Francine LeFrak; and director/screenwriter Rick Friedberg.
Yale student makes Jeopardy! headlines
New Haven
Matt Amodio has won $574,801 so far and earned a spot ranked just below Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer on “Jeopardy!’s” Hall of Fame for highest-earners during regular-season play. In doing so, he’s also seated in the No. 1 spot on the show’s Tournament of Champions tracker, showing the likelihood of his return for championship play on the show.

Athena Lucene, a West Hartford-based Spiritual Thought Leader, appeared on the Bravo reality show “Below Deck Mediterranean.” Lucene, a “success coach,” was a guest for two episodes of the show (including the Aug. 2 episode), which portrays the lives of crew members of a super yacht during charter season.

Harwinton
Christian Birkenberger, a contestant in the newest season of CBS’s “Big Brother” was voted out of the competition last month. Native to Harwinton, Birkenberger was evicted in the fifth week of the show’s 23rd season.
