Dáithí Ó’Se’s son Ógie has turned eight today.

There are big celebrations in their Galway home as they mark the birthday, which falls on St. Patrick’s Day.

This special day for the youngster comes ahead of Dáithí and Rita 10th wedding anniversary later this year.

Lifting the lid on his family life, Dáithí told RSVP Magazine: “It’s crazy, where has the time gone? Our young fella will be eight on St. Patrick’s Day too, time is flying by. I need to start thinking about what I’m going to do to celebrate.”

Turning eight now, Ógie is very much a boy and not a young child or a toddler and their bond is growing stronger and stronger as father and son. The pair love hanging out together.

The RTÉ star said: “I go to work thinking ‘I would love to be hanging out with this fella for the whole day’.

“That was the one thing when we got COVID, we got it together and we were able to hang out a bit more.

“You can only sleep in one bed overnight when it comes to work and that is one thing I have learned over years.

“I asked myself if I really had to work on the weekends, and the answer to that is ‘no’.

“Last weekend, he didn’t get out of his pyjamas; we stuck on the fire, watched a few movies and dozed off. Then we woke up and watched Dancing with the Stars.”

Dáithí and Ógie have been making the most of the GAA matches returning and that a shared interest that they both love.

He said: “We were lucky that our local club in Galway, St. Thomas’s were county champions again this year and we went to a lot of their matches.

“We have been to a few Kerry games as well. My dad worked a lot so we didn’t get to go to matches together, he worked Sundays as well.

“Once we make the decision to go, we go. There is no such thing as ‘We don’t have time’ – we always have time, and that’s the way it should be.”
