Fans react to limited-edition Queen Elizabeth Barbie doll and liken it to Hollywood actress Helen Mirren
The Queen has been turned into a Barbie doll to mark the Monarch’s Platinum Jubilee. The Queen Elizabeth II Barbie has been released today to mark Her Majesty’s 96th birthday.
The “instantly recognisable” doll is fitted with an elegant ivory gown and blue ribbon adorned with decorations of order.. However, many fans on social media have been quick to spot that the doll looks very similar to actress Helen Mirren.
Helen played Queen Elizabeth in ‘The Queen’ in 2006, and users are comparing the doll to the movie. One user @TracieHuntsaid: “OK but this doll is giving Helen Mirren when she portrayed the queen in “The Queen” (2006).”
Another Twitter user @symbosimbo shared a picture of the doll saying: “The irony that the new Queen barbie doll looks more like Helen Mirren”. Many more social media users have also realised the alikeness.

There has been other criticism about the doll, which has been made to Barbie proportions rather than to reflect the Queen’s height at 5″3. Some of the criticism also includes the fact that the doll does not reflect the Queen’s age of 96. Podcaster Nicky Clark tweeted: “Y’know a better tribute to a 96 year old woman would be a barbie doll with actual wrinkles like the Queen has. The messaging to girls is awful. Get old girls sure, but look young.”
However there has also been a lot of appreciation for Mattel immortalising of the Queen as a Barbie doll, with many people wondering when they can purchase the doll. Even in America, people are waiting to purchase and have been keeping an eye on the official Mattel website, where the doll is retailing for cheaper at $75.
The limited-edition Queen Elizabeth Barbie doll has been rumoured to retail in the UK at £94.99 and will be available at Harrods, Hamley’s, John Lewis, Selfridges and Amazon.
