From Sofia Vergara To Ben Stiller, Hollywood Stars Who Battled Cancer And Emerged Triumphant
A battle with cancer is quite a harrowing one from its diagnosis to treatment and recovery. It is much harder when you have to go through these trying times while being in the public. There are quite a few stars who had, unfortunately, had to face this battle. It is quite difficult for cancer survivors to open up about their experience, but some stars opened up about it. Here are 5 Hollywood stars who battled cancer and came out triumphant. Check it out:
1) Sophia Vergara:
As a Glamour report, this extremely successful TV star is one of the highest-paid in the industry. The actress was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 28. Vergara had her thyroid removed. Ever since then not only has she been living but also openly talking about living with hypothyroidism.
2) Stanley Tucci:
This actor opened up about his struggles with a cancerous tumor on his tongue, as per the Best Life report. He said that ‘it was too big to operate on’ and stated that ‘it was horrible.’ He especially found it hard because, “if you can’t eat and enjoy food, how are you going to enjoy everything else?”
As per the Best Life report, the actor once said, “[Cancer] makes you more afraid and less afraid at the same time. I feel much older than I did before I was sick. But you still want to get ahead and get things done.”
3) Christine Applegate:
This gorgeous actress went through a double mastectomy after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. As per a Glamour report, the actress gave credit to her mother who is a repeat breast cancer survivor who inspired her with the strength to get through the trying time. While talking about reconstructive surgery, the actress said, “And you know, I’m going to have cute boobs till I’m 90.”
4) Fran Drescher:
This actress was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2000. As per a Glamour report, she once wrote in an essay, “It was strange—and kind of poetic—that my reproductive organs, of all things, had cancer.” She is now the founder of a cancer advocacy group that is involved with the prevention, early detection, and policy change, called Cancer Schamcer.
5) Ben Stiller:
Ben Stiller was diagnosed with prostate cancer after a prostate-specific antigen was found in his body. He was recommended to get screened at 46 when the American Cancer Society’s recommended age is 50. The actor said, “The bottom line for me: I was lucky enough to have a doctor who gave me what they call a ‘baseline’ PSA test when I was about 46,”
He explained in an essay he wrote in 2016, “I have no history of prostate cancer in my family and I am not in the high-risk group … I had no symptoms.” He continued, “If he had waited, as the American Cancer Society recommends until I was 50, I would not have known I had a growing tumor until two years after I got treated.”.
