Two days into the first-ever Summer Metro Manila Film Festival (SMMFF), Quantum Film’s comedy, “Here Comes The Groom,” consistently leads box office returns among the eight official entries.

According to insiders, though unofficial and estimated, its single-day box office gross reached P2.5 million on Sunday.

Viva Film’s “Yung Libro Sa Napanood Ko,” starring Korean actor Yoo Min-Gon and Bela Padilla, who also wrote and directed the movie, took the second spot.

The third most popular film is the Romnick Sarmenta and Elijah Canlas-starter, “About Us But Not About Us,” directed by Jun Robles Lana and produced by IdeaFirstCompany.

Meanwhile, Brillante Mendoza’s “Apag,” whose star-studded cast includes Coco Martin, Lito Lapid, Jaclyn Jose, Gladys Reyes and Shaina Magdayao, is in fourth place, followed by “Unravel” starring Gerald Anderson and Kylie Padilla; “Love You Long Time” with Carlo Aquino and Eisel Serrano; “Single Bells” with Angeline Quinto, Aljur Abrenica and Alex Gonzaga; and “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko,” the musical biopic of Rey Valera starring RK Bagatsing and Meg Imperial.

Starring Enchong Dee, Nico Antonio, KaladKaren, Iyah Mina, Gladys Reyes, Keempee de Leon, Miles Ocampo, Awra Briguera, Maris Racal and Eugene Domingo, “Here Comes The Groom” is the sequel to Millado’s successful 2010 release “Here Comes the Bride,” a family comedy about soul-swapping.

Moviegoers have also started rating and reviewing the eight entries across several movie websites. In Letterboxd, a global online social networking service focused on sharing opinions about a movie and love for film, “About Us But Not About Us” received the best rating with a score of 3.7, followed by “Here Comes The Groom” at 3.3, and “Apag” at 2.8.

Box office figures are still expected to rise in the coming days as Filipinos return to work from a long Holy Week and Easter break. Cinemas will continue to carry the all-Filipino movie lineup until April 18.

Meanwhile, the first Summer Gabi Ng Parangal will be held Tuesday night, April 11.

Golden Globe nominee Dolly de Leon heads the festival’s jury panel which will determine the winners for this year.
