Hollywood stars are rallying around Bruce Willis after the action star’s diagnosis with aphasia and his retirement from acting were announced this week.

The beloved Die Hard star is “stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him,” according to a shared statement from members of his family posted to social media on Wednesday.

His ex-wife, Demi Moore, along with their children, Rumer and Scout Willis, confirmed that the 67-year-old has been diagnosed with aphasia, “which is impacting his cognitive abilities.”

Aphasia is a disorder caused by damage to a part of the brain that controls language and it affects communication skills.

Jamie Lee Curtis, Cindy Crawford, Elizabeth Perkins, Julianne Moore and Rita Wilson were among the stars paying tributes to the actor on Instagram this week.

Jamie Lee Curtis responded to Demi Moore on Instagram, saying: “Grace and guts! Love to you all!” While actress Elizabeth Perkins added: “Sending so much love to you all.”

Crawford shared the praying hands emoji, while Wilson wrote: “My heart goes out to Bruce, and all of the family. So thankful you shared this with us. Keeping you all in our prayers.”

Julianne Moore just posted a single red heart in solidarity.

Director M. Night Shyamalan, who Willis famously worked with on The Sixth Sense, shared a touching tribute his “hero.”

“All my love and respect to my big brother Bruce Willis,” the filmmaker tweeted. “I know his wonderful family is surrounding him with support and strength. He will always be that hero on that poster on my wall as kid.”

Filmmaker Kevin Smith apologized for publicly criticizing the actor over a decade ago over the 2010 movie Cop Out.

“Long before any of the Cop Out stuff, I was a big Bruce Willis fan – so this is really heartbreaking to read. He loved to act and sing and the loss of that has to be devastating for him. I feel like an asshole for my petty complaints from 2010. So sorry to BW and his family,” Smith wrote on Twitter.

Willis’ Look Who’s Talking co-star Kirstie Alley added: “Terribly Sad news. I’m just happy Bruce has such an awesome support system. Great guy great actor great family. winning combination for.”

Matthew Marsden, who starred in the film Deadlock with Willis, tweeted: “I’m very proud to have worked opposite the great Bruce Willis in one of his last movies. This is very sad. Legend.”

A host of stars shared their love for Willis on his daughter Rumer’s Instagram post too.

“Sending love to you and your beautiful family,” Jenna Dewan wrote, while Sarah Paulson added: “He was such an incredible acting partner to me, and is the loveliest, most gentle and hilarious man. he reigns supreme in my book.”

Seth Green tweeted: “I have so much love for Bruce Willis, and am grateful for every character he’s given us. Hugs and love for the whole family—thank you for sharing him with us all.”

Willis’ family thanked fans for their “continued love, compassion and support” in what they said has been a difficult time for them.

“We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him,” their shared statement reads.

The statement was signed by Emma Heming Willis (Bruce’s current wife), as well as Moore and his five children, Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel and Evelyn.
