Hollywood star Jamie Foxx set to jet into Dublin to film game show Beat Shazam

Hollywood superstar Jamie Foxx will fly into Ireland next month to host a TV game show.

he Oscar-winning American will be based in Dublin for a week and will present a series called Beat Shazam, in which contestants can win up to $1 million in prizes.

The Texan hosts the show with his daughter Connie and the contestants are all American, with the audience made up of Irish people.

The show is being made by the same Irish base production company which recently hosted the music show Name That Tune, which was presented by American Idol judge Randy Jackson and actress Jane Krakowski.

Filming of that show had to be halted late last year after an outbreak of Covid at the Fonthill studios in west Dublin, with Krakowski and several other members of crew struck down with the virus.

Guest judge Mel B managed to film her segment of the show before the outbreak and when it resumed filming in Dublin earlier this year Kelly Osbourne flew in to be another star mentor.

The Dublin production of Name That Tune also featured American contestants, with an Irish audience.

The Irish makers of the Dublin productions of Beat the Shazam and Name That Tune are Bigger Stage.

The company was recently formed by former Virgin Media Managing Director Pat Kiely and its most high-profile production was The Big Deal, which was hosted by Vogue Williams and had judges such as Boy George, Jedward, Deirdre O’Kane and JLS star Aston Merrygold.

Mr Kiely said he could not yet confirm details of the project when contacted by the Sunday World.

As well as the father and daughter Foxx duo, Beat Shazam also stars actress October Gonzalez.

Jamie (54) recently said that “everybody’s going to do a game show”.

He further added that the world has changed and said that in olden times, one used to do movies and one had a scarf around their neck and one could only do those things.

Talking about Beat Shazam, Jamie Foxx said that the show is “music, fun, and family.”

Beat Shazam is aired on the Fox network in the US and has an audience of over three million viewers each week.

Its format centres on three teams of two players who each compete through four rounds to identify a series of songs, banking money for each correct answer.

After the fourth round, the highest-scoring team plays head-to-head against the Shazam app, attempting to increase their winnings by naming up to six songs before it can identify them.

Any team that beats Shazam on all six songs wins the grand prize of $1 million.

Three teams so far in the five series to date have won the jackpot.

The show has had a string of star guests, who have included Mariah Carey, MC Hammer, Michael Bolton, Snoop Dogg, Smokey Robinson, TLC, Joey McIntyre, Lance Bass and Shaquille O’Neal.

An episode featuring a guest appearance by Demi Lovato was slated to air in July 2018 but a different new episode was shown instead due to Lovato’s hospitalisation after an apparent overdose.

The episode eventually aired in September 2018 with Lovato’s appearance edited out.

Jamie Foxx was born and made his breakthrough in In 1991 when he joined the cast as a featured player in the sketch comedy show In Living Colour until the show’s end in 1994.

Following this success, Foxx was given his own television sitcom The Jamie Foxx Show.

The father of two subsequently became widely known for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 biographical film Ray, for which he won as Oscar for Best Actor.
