HOLLYWOOD megastar John Travolta has been indulging in some very normal British activities while filming in the UK.

The actor was spotted out and about visiting a Morrisons supermarket and a Wetherspoons pub in Norfolk where he chatted to fans.

Travolta, 68, happily posed for pictures with staff and customers at the Fakenham shop on Saturday afternoon.

He previously tucked into burgers and pizza at the chain pub in Derenham, where he seemed to be flanked by two bodyguards.

The Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Pulp Fiction star posed for selfies while buying steaks and other groceries from the store.

He said he had sent his runners to Swaffham Waitrose earlier in the week for supplies, but had wanted to come shopping himself this time.

Norfolk is a far cry from where the A-list star was just days ago, when he appeared on the Oscars stage in Los Angeles to present the award for Best Actor.

Travolta danced with Uma Thurman in a recreation of their famous dancing scene from the 1994 film, Pulp Fiction, before handing over the award to Will Smith – moments after the King Richard actor infamously slapped Chris Rock.

He is understood to be staying locally while filming in at Raynham Hangar Studios at the old airfield in West Raynham, Norfolk.

University of East Anglia law student Jamie Salter, 20, talked to the actor at the pub and said it was a “surreal experience”.

He added: “Meeting John Travolta was incredible. Dereham doesn’t usually play host to some of the most famous Hollywood stars on the planet.

“I feel extremely lucky to have met him as it certainly wasn’t what I expected to experience on a Thursday night out in Dereham.

“I enjoy going to The Romany Rye often and never would have anticipated my night going this way.

“We were sat at another table at the Wetherspoons and a couple of staff members pointed him out. We didn’t believe them, but I walked past and got a glimpse of him.

“At first no one was 100% sure if it was really him, nor did anyone else want to go up and find out!

“I went over to his table, excused myself for disturbing them, and asked ‘is it John?’.

“If the reply of ‘It certainly is’ wasn’t enough, the strong American accent further confirmed my suspicions.

“I went on to ask if I could shake his hand and get a picture. He told me how he was over here for a week filming for a Christmas movie at a local airstrip.

“Mr Travolta was happy to speak with me and came across as genuinely happy to speak to his fans although probably relaxing after a day of filming as it was nearly 11pm!

“I didn’t want to bother him too much so I said ‘Enjoy your meal’ and then left, and as I did the two staff members who pointed him out went and got a photo with him.

“But I don’t think many other people would have gone up to him because he was right in the corner and no-one else had clocked that he was there.”

Travolta also celebrated his daughter Ella’s 22nd birthday yesterday with a traditional British afternoon tea.

In an Instagram post the actor said he was in the area to film a short movie “The Shepherd”, based on a book by Frederick Forsyth.

Gary Middleton, 48, a part-time security guard at the Morrisons store posed for a selfie with the star and said that he spent an hour chatting to customers and staff.

‘I WAS SO LUCKY’

He said: “He looked at me as I passed him and put his hand out to shake mine.

“We exchanged a few words and had a little joke together. I was so lucky to get a picture.”

“Once people realised who it was they all started to get excited. He was quite smart-looking, well built and very polite to all the staff here.

“He looks a bit different to the way people remember him from the 1970s and 80s, or with his long, dark hair from Pulp Fiction.

“But you could tell who it was from the smile in his eyes. We had a really nice chat.

“He had his picture taken with quite a few people in here, including a lady with a walking stick who was desperate to get a picture.”

Morrisons staff member Nicola Gee added: “I was going about my normal duties at Morrisons in Fakenham and I looked up and saw the one and only John Travolta in our store.

“We questioned whether it was actually him at first as I just do not think that we ever imagined that we would see a film star in Fakenham.

“We approached him and asked him if we could have a photo taken with him, he was very pleasant and agreed – a memory to treasure.”
