I don’t blame them. He’s a fantastic actor: Amber Heard on jury’s verdict favouring Johnny Depp
Speaking out in public for the first time since the verdict in her defamation trial, Hollywood actor Amber Heard seemed to be indicating that the jury’s decision was based more on the acting skills of her ex-husband Johnny Depp, rather than legal provisions.
In an NBC report, Heard is quoted as saying, “I don’t blame them. I actually understand. He [Depp] is a beloved character and people feel they know him. He’s a fantastic actor.”

She also called the social media coverage around the case “unfair” as many posts on TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms appeared to overwhelmingly favour Depp during the six-week trial.
“I don’t care what one thinks about me or what judgments you want to make about what happened in the privacy of my own home, in my marriage, behind closed doors. I don’t presume the average person should know those things. And so I don’t take it personally,” she said.

The report further quoted her as saying: “But even for somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation. You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”
THE JOHNNY DEPP-AMBER HEARD CASE
The much-talked-about Johnny Depp-vs-Amber Heard defamation case came to an end on June 1, with the jury at the Fairfax County Court in Virginia, US, awarding the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor more than $10 million and his ex-wife $2 million.
The case was over a suit filed by Depp against Heard over a December 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post describing herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse”. Although the op-ed did not mention Depp, he said that it pointed towards him and had hurt his career.
While the jury of the Virginia court found Amber Heard’s article defamatory towards Johnny Depp, it also determined that Heard had been defamed by one of Depp’s lawyers, who said she had created a detailed hoax that included roughing up the couple’s apartment to look worse for police. The jury awarded her $2 million.
Heard’s attorney, Elaine Bredehoft, had earlier said that Heard can’t pay the $10.4 million and intended to appeal. When asked on NBC’s ‘Today’ show whether Heard has the money to pay the $10.35 million, Bredehoft said, “Oh, no, absolutely not.”
