‘Inside Out 2’ crosses $800 million mark at US box office in just 12 days; among top 10 highest-grossing animated movies of all time
Emotions are running wild at the box office with the latest Disney Pixar film ‘Inside Out 2’ raking in the big bucks and setting new records. The film which has been playing in theatres for just around 12 days, has already entered into the Top 10 list of highest-grossing animated movies of all time.
According to Deadline, the film is now the 10th highest-grossing animated movie of all time in North America. Globally, it has surpassed $800 million and is rapidly approaching the $1 billion mark. By the end of its second week, the film is expected to cross the lifetime collections of the original ‘Inside Out,’ which was released in 2015. The film, which was a critical and commercial success, grossed over $858 million worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The sequel currently boasts of total earnings of $387.8 million domestically and $411.9 million internationally. As far as facing off against other animated films are concerned, the sequel has surpassed ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ which earned $370 million, ‘Finding Nemo’ which clocked $381 million, and 2023’s ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ which earned $382 million at the domestic box office. Next in line to surpass is Disney’s own ‘Frozen.’
‘Inside Out 2’, which hit theatres on June 10, has already become the highest-grossing movie of 2024, beating ‘Dune: Part Two.’ The film is poised to become Pixar’s first film to hit the $1 billion milestone since 2019.
However, the new Indian film ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, could impact ‘Inside Out 2’s’ box office numbers. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has already generated significant buzz and crossed the $3.5 million mark at the North American box office, positioning it as a major contender. All eyes will be on the box office this weekend to see how well the film holds up with the new Indian sci-fi film and the release of ‘A Quiet Place’ prequel hitting theatres this weekend.
The voice cast of ‘Inside Out 2’ features the return of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan, with new additions Maya Hawke, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Paul Walter Hauser joining the ensemble.
