Love is a many-splendored thing, especially when you’re gawking at it from the outside. In this column, we’ll be examining the celebrity couples that give us hope for our own romantic futures and trying to learn what we can from their well-documented bonds.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been all that much of a Jack Antonoff stan. I have nothing against the record producer and Fun guitarist/drummer, per se—he seems like he’d be perfectly nice to talk to at a party—but as an ardent consumer of the various forms of scholarship devoted to his long-ago breakup with Lena Dunham and potential relationship with Lorde (remember the PowerPoint?!?), it’s hard to see him as a romantic hero rather than one in a series of celebrity-gossip data points compiled by some evil genius. Also, Antonoff kind of looks like this kid, Ben, who was mean to me one summer at camp, but that’s really not his fault.

All that said, when I heard Antonoff had recently become engaged to actress Margaret Qualley, I smiled and sent the happy couple a mental mazel tov, precisely because of what their relationship proves—that no matter how famous you are, or how carefully scrutinized your past relationships may be, you always have the hope of starting fresh and building something great with someone new.

I was even more confident in my support of Antonoff and Qualley’s relationship (which I’m sure they were waiting for with bated breath) when I saw the engagement proof that Qualley posted to Instagram:
