Johnny Depp Reacts To CCTV Footage Of Himself Breaking Rules In Elevator
Footage of Johnny Depp reacting to CCTV images of himself in an elevator has emerged from his ongoing trial with ex-wife Amber Heard; you can watch it below:
Depp, 58, is suing ex-wife Heard, 35, in a $50 million (£38.2 million) defamation lawsuit over abuse claims she made in an article in The Washington Post, despite not mentioning Depp by name in the op-ed.
With the lawsuit against Heard well underway, Depp watched on as he appears to smoke a cigarette in a lift in the Eastern Columbia Building on May 21, 2016.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor kept a straight face when watching the clip, while his manager took the stand to answer questions about surveillance video.
The manager claimed that smoking ‘is not’ permitted on the elevator in the ECB building.
Dr. Tracy A Pearson, who is a former trial lawyer, also explained why she thinks Depp’s team are using the clip.
She said: “Well they don’t seem to show anything of significance about Johnny Depp on certain days.
“And I think what they’re trying to do is they’re trying to establish that he isn’t the person that Amber Heard is going to describe him or has described him to be to the Jury.
“This is ultimately a family law case, this is divorce case within a defamation case and so what we have is two Hollywood celebrities that are gonna start slinging dirt at each other.
“And he is trying to establish himself as not being the menace that Amber Heard claims he is.”
Shortly after providing her testimony, however, Judge Penny Azcarate said it would be stricken from the record.
Azacarte asked Deuters if she had seen any of the trial testimony prior to taking to the stand, saying: “Have you been watching the trial this past week?”
When Azacarte asked Deuters to clarify if she had seen ‘parts of this trial’ and ‘witness testimonies’, Deuters repeated: “Yeah, I’ve seen clips.”
Azacarte then told her she was ‘excused’, saying: “I’ll have to strike the testimony of Ms Deuters.”
She explained that the jury would be told not to take what she said into consideration when deliberating.
When they returned to the room, Azacarte told the jurors: “The court is striking the testimony of Georgina ‘Gina’ Deuters from the record in its entirety.”
