KGF Chapter 2 box office collection predicted to earn 10X the budget by experts
KGF Chapter 2 has just premiered in theatres worldwide, with the film’s box office earnings predicted to make ten times the original budget.
The world is gripped by KGF-fever today, with the highly-anticipated sequel movie finally making its theatrical debut after one of the most intense promotional campaigns in recent memory.
As cinemagoers celebrate KGF Chapter 3 being announced, word of mouth is resulting in more and more expectant fans making the effort to see Yash’s latest blockbuster on the big screen.
Now, a new prediction on the potential box office lifetime earnings sets up KGF Chapter 2 to make over ten times the film’s original budget!
KGF Chapter 2 makes over Rs 134.5 Crore on opening day
The KGF Chapter 2 movie has only been available to watch in theatres for a single day, but already the film is making substantial gains at the Indian box office.
Hombale Films, the production team behind KGF Chapter 2, actually revealed earlier today, April 15, that the movie earned a fantastic Rs 134.5 Crore on its opening day!
In fact, it has already been reported by Bollywood Hungama that KGF Chapter 2 earned Rs 31 Crore net with the advance ticket sales. The same report would share that a fantastic 80% occupancy rate has been seen across the country, with nearly 50% of those being purely from the advance ticket sales.
Trade analysis Sumit Kadel would then reveal that this makes KGF Chapter 2 the second best-selling advance ticket booking for any Indian movie behind Baahubali 2 (2017).
“#KGFChapter2 ( Hindi ) Advance Booking crosses ₹ 25 cr nett for the opening day. Film has recorded second highest advance booking of all time after #Baahubali2 .. Day-1 collection is going to surpass ₹ 40 cr nett mark & will take a shot at ₹ 45-50 cr opening. #KGF2 #Yash” – Sumit Kadel, via Twitter.
However, the film’s initial success is not only limited to a certain region, with the entire nation, if not the world, is gripped by KGF-fever. Another trade analyst, Ramesh Bala, has confirmed that KGF Chapter 2 actually beat out Baahubali 2 for the Hindi release.
Predicted box office collection dwarf’s budget
Whilst the box office sales will understandably increase dramatically over the opening weekend, that hasn’t stopped experts from making predictions about KGF Chapter 2’s potential lifetime earnings.
According to Sacnilk, a typically reliable outlet for box office earnings, KGF Chapter 2 is predicted to make an outstanding Rs 1250 Crore gross lifetime profit worldwide with a Rs 600 Crore share:
- India Net: 920 Cr / Share: 510 Cr
- Hindi Net: 400 Cr / Share: 200 Cr
- Kannada Net: 250 Cr / Share: 160 Cr
- Telugu Net: 170 Cr / Share: 120 Cr
- Tamil Net: 70 Cr / Share: 40 Cr
- Malayalam Net: 30 Cr / Share: 20 Cr
- Worldwide Gross: 1250 Cr /Share: 600 Cr.
KGF Chapter 2 reportedly had a budget of around Rs 100 Crore, meaning that the post-release profits could potentially be more than ten times the original budget!
Koimoi had previously suggested that there was a chance that the film could become the biggest opening day in the Indian cinema industry. However, the Rs 134.5 Crore earnings is still lagging behind the competition – RRR (Rs 223 Crore) and Baahubali 2 (Rs 213 Crore).
Interestingly, The Indian Express reported back in 2018 that KGF Chapter 1 earned Rs 59.61 Crore after its first three days at the box office – a number surpassed by the new sequel by around mid-afternoon.
The 10 biggest-budget Indian movies
Now that we know the potential scope of KGF Chapter 2’s success at the global box office, many are wondering what the biggest-budget Indian releases have been in recent years.
Whilst a 100 Crore budget for KGF Chapter 2 is indeed impressive, it doesn’t come close to some of the other major blockbusters that have graced the big screen:
- 2.0 (2018) – Rs 570 Crore
- RRR (2022) – Rs 550 Crore
- Ponniyin Selvan (2022) – Rs 500 Crore
- Adipurush (2023) – Rs 500 Crore
- The Good Maharaja (2022) – Rs 400 Crore
- Saaho (2019) – Rs 250 Crore
- Radhe Shyam (2022) – Rs 350 Crore
- Salaar (2022) – Rs 350 Crore
- Thugs of Hindostan (2018) – Rs 310 Crore
- Prithviraj (2022) – Rs 300 Crore
- Brahmāstra (2022) – Rs 300 Crore
So whilst KGF Chapter 2 is nowhere near the top-dogs for the highest budget Indian movie, there is a good chance that the film could become one of the biggest earners in recent years.
