Kim Kardashian Doesn’t Care What You Think Of Her Style Choices
Say what you will about Kim Kardashian’s recent fashion moments, from skin-tight Balenciaga ensembles to eye-catching Thierry Mugler, the Skims founder doesn’t necessarily care what anyone else thinks — at least, not anymore.
Just a few days after The Kardashians premiered on Hulu, the reality star made a special guest appearance at Revolve Festival, a two-day Coachella-adjacent event celebrating the fashion retailer with a series of bright festival-themed pop-ups, immersive installations, and on-site concerts with performances from artists including Post Malone and Willow Smith.
“I don’t really go for a festival style. That’s not really my thing,” Kardashian, who attended the event in a crop top and high-slit skirt by Rick Owens with thigh-high, lace-up Manolo Blahnik heels and Margiela mirrored glasses, told Vanity Fair. “I definitely have different style vibes when I go to different cities, depending on the weather and depending on the event. But I just think that, when I go out to something like a festival, I still always want to be myself and just not feel the pressure.”
That pressure is something the Instagram icon, who is currently working with Revolve on her own fashion edit, admitted contributed to overthinking about what others thought of her style throughout the years which negatively impacted her mental health.
“I used to care so much and get so upset and have it literally ruin my day,” the reality star confessed. “And I’ve come to the realization where I’m just like, ‘It doesn’t matter.’ Nobody cares and you just have to let go…like if you want to wear something super chill and no makeup, it took me a minute to get there, but that’s where I’m at.”
She continued, “Now, the majority of the time I love being really toned down, really chill, wearing way less makeup or no makeup at all, and wearing more casual things. I think there’s something just comfortable and a growth process for me that I don’t care as much.”
In the premiere episode of The Kardashians, which was filmed ahead of Kardashian’s Saturday Night Live hosting debut, she talks with sisters Kourtney and Khloé about working with now-ex-husband Kanye West on styling her big moment. Fast-forward to today and Kardashian maintains that her creative direction is a “collaborative process” between her stylist, brands she has relationships with, and herself. Now, with a fresh lease on life (and a new relationship with boyfriend Pete Davidson), Kardashian finds her own “personal growth” to be the inspiration for her recent style aesthetic.
