Lili Reinhart slams Kim Kardashian over Met Gala 2022 diet
There’s nothing gilded or glamorous about starving oneself.
Lili Reinhart slammed Kim Kardashian over the extreme diet that the reality star went on to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s dress for the 2022 Met Gala.
“To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are… because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month…all to fit in a f–king dress?” Reinhart, 25, wrote on her Instagram Story Tuesday. “So wrong. So f–ked on 100s of levels.”
The “Riverdale” star, who did not call out Kardashian by name, added that it is “disgusting” for celebrities to admit to “starving” themselves considering how many people idolize them.
“To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is other-worldly disgusting,” she wrote.
Reinhart’s statement came just one day after Kardashian, 41, told Vogue that she lost 16 pounds in under a month in order to squeeze into the iconic dress that Monroe wore to sing “Happy Birthday” to John F. Kennedy in 1962.
“It was like preparing for a role,” the “Kardashians” star said.
Following the big event, Kardashian shared a video of an endless buffet of doughnuts and pizza and admitted she was excited because she was “starving” and had not eaten carbs or sugar in nearly a month.
Leading up to the Met Gala, where the dress code was “Gilded Glamour,” the Skims founder had also shared on social media that she was doing two workouts a day to slim down.
Kardashian borrowed Monroe’s dress from the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum, which acquired the Jean Louis-designed “world’s most expensive dress” for $4.8 million in 2016. As such, Ripley’s would not allow Kardashian to alter the dress, causing her to alter herself with extreme dieting and exercise.
The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” alum has a history of going the extra mile when it comes to fashion, having practiced corset training and breathing lessons to accomplish her tiny waist in her Thierry Mugler Met Gala dress in 2019.
Reinhart, for her part, has been open about suffering from body dysmorphia, saying in 2018, “Feeling really disheartened by the fact that so many people are saying ‘you’re skinny so shut up about embracing [sic] your body.
“As if my body dysmorphia is irrelevant because of how I look to some people. I’m either not curvy enough or not skinny enough to feel insecure.”
Coincidentally, Reinhart’s statement at the time came after a troll criticized her for saying she was inspired by Monroe’s curvy figure because it made her feel like her body would be accepted.
When a Twitter user said the “Hustlers” star was skinny and therefore did not need to be insecure, Reinhart snapped back, “Telling someone they don’t deserve to feel insecure because their body is ‘fine’ or ‘just like’ whomever.. is wrong. That’s part of the problem. That’s part of body shaming.”
