Olivia Wilde Says Gossip Helps ‘Numb’ People From The World
Olivia Wilde won’t say too much about her relationship with Harry Styles because of celebrity gossip.
However, the actress briefly touched on her romance with the former One Direction signer in a new interview with Variety.
Olivia Wilde Sheds Light On Her Relationship With Harry Styles
“We both go out of our way to protect our relationship,” Wilde said. “I think it’s out of experience, but also just out of deep love.”
The couple met on the set of their upcoming film, “Don’t Worry Darling,” in which Wilde directs and stars. Styles also stars in the film opposite his on-screen wife, Florence Pugh.
In her cover story for Variety, Wilde explained why she’s so hush-hush about her romantic life.
Wilde Believes Celeb Gossip Is A Good Distraction & Numbing Tool
“I’ve never seen a relationship benefit from being dragged into the public arena,” she said. “The whole culture of celebrity gossip is interesting as a distraction tool to numb people from the greater pains of the world.”
Wilde continued to say, “Escapism is really a very human quality, searching for something to anesthetize the painful reality of so many people’s lives. I don’t blame people for seeking escapism, but I think the tabloid media is a tool to pit women against one another and to shame them.”
It’s interesting the timing of this statement given there have been rumors of a feud between Wilde and Pugh.
The alleged feud and animosity between Pugh and Wilde started when the director and musician struck up a relationship during filming.
The psychological thriller set in the 1950s stars Pugh as Alice, who suspects that all is not as it seems in the glamorous paradise where she lives with her husband, Jack, played by Styles.
Pugh has praised her co-star and on-screen lover, but she’s kept mum about Wilde.
She said he was “a total professional and it was a great experience working together.”
In the same interview, Wilde dragged her previous relationship with Jason Sudeikis.
Olivia Admits There’s A Reason She Left Her Relationship With Sudeikis
Back in April, Wilde took the stage at the event to promote her new movie, which just so happens to star her boyfriend, Harry Styles.
Wilde stars in and directs the film.
According to Sudeikis, his split from Wilde was unexpected and very hard. He hit “rock bottom” following the breakup.
They share two children together, a son named Otis and a daughter named Daisy.
The “Horrible Bosses” actor and Wilde were together for seven years before breaking up in November 2020.
By January 2021, Wilde was making headlines for a new relationship with Styles.
“It was my workplace,” Wilde explained to the publication. “In any other workplace, it would be seen as an attack. It was really upsetting. It shouldn’t have been able to happen. There was a huge breach in security, which is really scary.”
Wilde believes there was some forethought put into the “attack,” which directly contradicts Sudeikis’ claims he had “no knowledge” his ex would be served custody papers at CinemaCon.
A source revealed to The Hollywood Reporter, “Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered, as this would solely be up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.”
Wilde is calling BS!
“The hurdles that you had to jump through to get into that room with several badges, plus special COVID tests that had to be taken days in advance, which gave you wristbands that were necessary to gain access to the event — this was something that required forethought,” the actress admitted. “I hated that this nastiness distracted from the work of so many different people and the studio that I was up there representing. To try to sabotage that was really vicious. But I had a job to do; I’m not easily distracted. But, you know, sadly, it was not something that was entirely surprising to me. I mean, there’s a reason I left that relationship.”
