Selena Gomez, more ‘will not back down’
More than 150 celebrities and influencers have signed a petition to show they don’t support the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, a possibility cited in a leaked draft opinion from the high court last week.
The names were listed in an full-page ad in the New York Times Friday as part of Planned Parenthood’s Bans Off Our Bodies campaign and include Ariana DeBose, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Demi Lovato, Hailey Bieber, Halsey, Kendall Jenner, Megan Thee Stallion, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez and Tommy Dorfman.
“Our power to plan our own futures and control our own bodies depends on our ability to access sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion,” the ad reads. “We will not go back – and we will not back down.”

Roe v. Wade is the landmark decision that established a constitutional right to abortion.
On May 2, the 98-page draft opinion was leaked and made public by Politico, as many Hollywood stars attended the Met Gala.
The leak has reignited nationwide debate over abortion and on Wednesday, the Senate failed to pass a bill that would have made Roe v. Wade the law of the land. The effort failed 49-51.

The bill was not expected to pass, but Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., framed the vote as a way to put every member of the Senate on the record about their stance on abortion in the wake of the leaked decision.
Democrats praised the bill as a way to maintain the rights established in Roe v. Wade, but Republicans decried it as a radical step that would go much further than what Roe guarantees.
Since the leak, many celebrities have spoken out about abortion.
Olivia Rodrigo, 19, who signed the petition, paused one of her recent concerts to condemn the possible overturn.
“I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to talk about how heartbroken I am over the Supreme Court’s potential decision,” Rodrigo said to cheers from the crowd in a video posted to Twitter May 4. “What a women does with her body should never be in the hands of politicians, and I hope we can use our voices to protect the right to have a safe abortion, which is a right that so many people before us have worked so hard to get.”

Another campaign supporter, Phoebe Bridgers, revealed she had an abortion last fall.
“I had an abortion in October of last year while I was on tour. I went to planned parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access,” Bridgers wrote on her Instagram Story May 3, sharing a link to a list of organizations that support abortion.
The ad arrives as Planned Parenthood’s Bans Off Our Bodies campaign plans rallies across the country on Saturday.
