Tom Cruise’s Ex-wife Katie Holmes Made a Potential Career Ending Blunder With Her $26 Million Movie ‘Mad Money’
Katie Holmes, a prominent celebrity in the entertainment industry, rose to prominence with her role in the TV series, Dawson’s Creek as Joey Potter. She pursued her talent further and got landed on some significant projects that put her on the list of top-notch celebrities.
While she enjoys immense fame due to her successful career, she made a potential career-ending blunder when she passed on a golden opportunity only to work in a film that only grossed $26 Million at the box office.

The 44-year-old actress, Katie Holmes kicked off her acting journey at a young age which eventually gave him a route to go through some of the biggest projects in the Hollywood industry. She has also been in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins by playing the role of Rachel Dawes who is the childhood sweetheart of Bruce Wayne and a Gotham City district attorney’s office attorney.
The film was an immense success which revived the Batman franchise however Holmes’s performance was intensely criticized. When the sequel, The Dark Knight was released, many initially overlooked the fact that she was nowhere in the film.
It was found that her character in the film was portrayed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. The filmmaker explained,
“Katie wasn’t available for the role, which I wasn’t very happy about, but these things happen, and I was very, very fortunate that Maggie [Gyllenhaal] was able to take it over.”
Though he did not mention the exact reason, Nolan explained her unavailability for the role. Reports later on shared that the actress left the blockbuster sequel to star in her 2008 film, Mad Money.
Katie Holmes’s Mad Money Was a Box-Office Flop!
Holmes left DC’s major project to star in Callie Khouri’s Mad Money in which she played the role of Jackie Truman opposite Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah. This film only made $26 million at the box office unlike the project he left which left an imprint in the superhero world.
Since that project, she didn’t get her hand on some big project for a decade that could have brought her to a level like the Batman franchise. However, her career eventually pushed forward once again when she worked in Ocean’s 8 alongside A-list celebrities.
She never released the reason behind switching from the DC film to this project. But, many believed that her marriage with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, and the probable juggling between the two projects could have left her with that choice. Though she mentioned in a 2014 interview about having no regrets about leaving such a lucrative deal that could have enhanced her stardom to another level.
