He’s also parlayed his extraordinary physical prowess into a successful and lucrative side hustle as a social media fitness influencer, promoting fitness APPs and raking in millions.

He’s been voted The Sexiest Man Alive and earned millions more from product endorsements, from Hugo Boss suits to TAG Heuer watches.

His latest Thor role has reportedly pocketed him another $US20million, placing him among the biggest earning actors in the world. That’s not a bad increase on the $US150,000 he was paid when he first starred in the role back in 2011.

He’s on par with the likes of Brad Pitt who is 20 years older than Hemsworth and has told GQ magazine in a profile interview that he is going through the “last semester or trimester” of his career.

But what exactly is the Hollywood shelf life in the world of action movies?

Apparently, a lot longer than many of their female counterparts, though Salma Hayak, 55, and Angelina Jolie, 47, both got starring roles in last year’s big-budget Eternals action blockbuster. Sadly, they are in the minority.

In 2016 Dutch actor Famke Janssen blamed her failure to be cast in a new X-Men movie on Hollywood’s sexist agenda towards older women.

“Women, it’s interesting because they’re replaced, and the older versions are never to be seen again,” Janssen told Entertainment Weekly. “Whereas the men are allowed to be both ages. Sexism. I think that I should be back along with my younger version and the way that we’ve seen it with Magneto and Professor X.”

Indeed, Hemsworth has plenty of male role models to look towards when it comes to action hero longevity.

James Bond actor Daniel Craig was 53 in his last outing in 2021’s No Time To Die, the same age as his predecessor Sean Connery was in his last Bond film, but a few years shy of Roger Moore, who was 58 in his final Bond film, A View to a Kill.

Tom Cruise, now 59, has another two Mission Impossible films scheduled to take him to 2024.

Harrison Ford, who turns 80 on July 13, is currently shooting his fifth film as Indiana Jones.

Hugh Jackman, now 52, managed to play his X-Men character Wolverine over a staggering 17 years, while there are persistent rumours he has not completely retired the claws just yet, a role for which he is required to be absolutely “shredded”.

Marvel actors like Hemsworth usually earn more the longer they star in the franchise. Robert Downey Junior made US$500,000 for the first Iron Man movie in 2008, but earned a whopping US$75million a decade later for Avengers: Endgame, which he made at 54.

It could be argued that the Iron Man role had a greater longevity given many of Downey Jr’s scenes relied on him being inside a CGI suit.

Hemsworth appears in his latest Thor film in his glorious birthday suit, presumably with minimal digital manipulation.
